I got a call from Grob Systems today at about 2:45-I made it into the best apprenticeship program in the area! In May, I took a mechanical/mental aptitude test, but I thought I did horrible on it. Around June 10th, I got a letter- I did great on the test, and had to schedule an interview. At that interview, I had to cut some metal and assemble a crank mechanism by just looking at a picture.

well, I made it past the second cut too. Last week I had my second interview, which was a more conventional one with lots of questions....

This company makes computer controlled dry-machining equipment for a bunch of automotive, aerospace, and other companies. I will be at the Bluffton, Ohio plant, and I start August 11th. I still can't believe I managed to get in, being only 19 years old and having no experience in tool and die work-but they will send me to college for that. It is very hard to get hired at this place, so I guess my many years of mechanical/computer tinkering have paid off.

Congratulations, I sincerely wish you the best of luck... Maybe you'll be able to afford a real nice car, and woman, not saying you can't get one without money, but... wait, this is an apprenticeship... dur... I do assume they are paying you some ammount of money to work there though....

yeah... being paid would be cool...

you mentioned something about the burnt rice car on AIM...

maybe if you're getting paid you'd have sufficient funds to get some nice parts for that

The first year I get $7/hour, second year $8.50/hr. After that, I am in the main shop and get around $15-18/hr, great benefits, and maybe get to travel to other countries to install/service equipment
