Hi,yesterday I had the idea to listen an audio cd within my 840av. Not really necessary, just an idea. But there was silence. The audio cd player shows up, counting time etc. but no sound. I checked the connectors and it seems to be okay. Anyone any idea? private Lightsurfer, at your command! I dont like signatures |

1. is there sound out normally ... ie does it play alert sounds ok ???2. is the CD drive OK ... check it in another computer ... does it output music in another comp 3. try reinstalling the OS ... its possible that one of the CD playback extensions is missing Orcadian MLA Division 68ks Liberated: 2 |

Is it playing sound through the head phone jack on the front of the drive?, Did you check the internal sound cable is attached? and no offence... are you playing the cd on an external drive?Editor of the printed word, Ministry of 68k Truths (mini6) ------------------ PowerCD, Mac HD 20, SE, Classic II, IIx, IIvi, PB 170, LC 475, LC 575, Quadra 650, Performa 5200, iMac 333 How you like d'em apples?! |

My PM8100 does this. Go into the Sound or Monitors and Sound control panel, go to Sound In, and select Internal CD, and make sure that the Playthrough box is checked."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Maclover5 is the closest I feel. I too had this "problem" with my 840av. You need to go to Monitors & sound control panel & click through the sound output options.Unfortunatley I didn't find a better solution for this & although You can make it play cd sound, my own 840av seems to relish is just being a little contrary & randomly decides whether to allow you to listen to your cd, without having to resort to such tedium of setting the sound controls every time. Remember "Think different", the 840av does shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

You might also want to check your PRAM battery, as on my 8100, that setting is kept in PRAM, well at least i think it is, anyway."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

If it loses the date and time when the machine's switched off, then the PRAM battery is dead."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
