I just bought a welder, and have a source of steel, so I am planning to build a metal case for 5 LC-style motherboards and a home-brewed lead-acid battery/inverter backup power supply. One 4AA 3 volt pram battery will serve all 5 motherboards (with a few diodes to prevent ground loops and such). The power switches will be lockout toggles on the front of the case that control relays for the pizzabox psu's. The motherboards will be on sliding trays for servicing, and the hard drives will be mounted to the underside of the tray. As far as the paint job goes, It will probably be leftover school bus yellow from the Honda project. this is just an idea after a long day of working on the car... I guess this is kind of my cheap version of the BrickOven thing Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org |

I am not talented when it comes to working with things like metal or wood. So, I rely on other people doing the actual construction.I am a profesional idea maker! :) Want to do something with those spare mac parts? E-mail me and I can tell you a cool hack to do, but I know next to nothing about executing the hack. :P

well, I need to make a more "space saving" server cluster, since the server pile in the garage is quite messy. I am in no way trying to copy the BrickOven idea. It will be 100% function over form: an ugly school bus yellow 16 gauge steel box with 5 power switches, and maybe some sort of homemade kvm switch.Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org
