Can someone help me install synthLAB? I have some 800k disks and some HD disks. I made a boot disk fine but when i tried to add synthLAB later, there wasn't enough space. Did i need to add it with the first installation? Is there a way to install system 6 on a HD disk? Thanks so much. |

I assume you mean System 6 for the Apple IIgs? Should be possible, if you can find a high density floppy drive that will work on the IIgs."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Thanks for the reply. Yes sorry: IIgs. I have a superdrive, but when i put a floppy in, with the computer booted from the Install disk, it only gives me 2 format options and both are 800k. Do i need to format the target floppy HFS on another machine first? Thanks in advance.

Ah, its a SuperDrive. I'm not exactly sure if SuperDrives are supported on the IIgs. I think its just 400/800k ones. Of course, you might be using a third party solution i don't know about to make it work..."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Well the SuperDrive can read/write just fine but only up to 800k. Apparently you need a superDrive controller (an expansion card i assume) to use 1.4k floppys. So i have another question (perhaps i should post a new topic): From most posts i've read on the subject, it seems like most people just plug in their Zip drives and they work fine. I've plugged in my SCSI Zip drive and nothing happens. I keep putting the zip in and ejecting it but it never registers with the OS. One time it did come up and asked me to format it but it tried 3 times and each time gave me an I/O error. Since then, the zip hasn't shown up at all. Is there a way to test if the SCSI card is bad? Any advice on the subject is appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have any other SCSI devices to test with it, like a hard drive?"**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Sort of. I have a cd-rom drive but no cable. I was reading that the Zip drive won't work alone without termination so i installed the 1n4148 diode as perscribed, but it still doesn't work. I'll have to check the thrift stores for an older scsi cable. Thankss again for the reply. I'll let you know if i find a cable.

Yeah, when my click-click drive was still alive, I had a few problems with termination sometimes."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

In regards to your question about Synthlab, it should be on an 800k disk by itself, it's too big to go on the system disk. You just need to start the computer with system 6 and then insert the Synthlab disk and you should be able to run the program. If you have any more problems let me know and I'll see what i can do to help. Dean
