Well I bought a Netgear Router, the RP614, and had nothing but trouble. It keeps dropping packets which require iether a router reboot or a host machine reboot.

Spent 45 minutes on the phone with tech support and it seems ok but it's alot of hassle. Plus the guy on the other end had an accent and didn't speak clealry so half the time I had to get him to repeat his message.

If this has fixed my troubles then maybe I can get on with life, but having a flaky internet connection that requires you to reboot your machine when the router resets is crazy. Not to mention if you are in the middle of something that shouldn't be interupted.

So, even if they offer a rebate, don't get Netgear or at least do a thorough check online to see what problems users report.

Well, I'm glad I went with D-Link . I got the DI-604 4-port router and it works beautifully. It wasn't that expensive anyway, even without the rebate.Go to Top of Page

I have a Netgear MR-814 Wireless Router that although was a bitch during initial setup, has worked flawlessly since.

I use a Cisco DSL box for all my routing, DHCP, NAT, and port-blocking firewall needs. Except for a firmware update to handle problems with the Code Red virus, it has been totally reliable. The internal LAN is a dumb hub and ethernet-phone bridge and is also reliable.

BTW, to the person whose post is gone that had problems accessing the admin page of their box, try a different browser. I have an occassionally operational wireless access point (nasty Mordersoft MN-500 from a garage sale) and its admin page was quite useless unless I used the right browser.
