You know we have a program here in the UK called Newsround. It is news for kids. All I here from that program in more recent times is "kids do this" "kids do that" "kids do the other"THIS IS NOT A NEWS PROGRAM IT IS BRAINWASHING ORDERING KIDS WHAT THEY THINK. I avoid listening to gossip & innuendo if at all possible & have completly given up on the idea of right & wrong, now I tend to think successfull or unsuccessfull. If Apple are successfull by faking benchmarks then I say well done Apple. If they have got caught faking benchmarks then I say they should've done better. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

Benchmarking is not an objective science -- its too easy to tweak the software to perform extremely well on a benchmark that bears no resemblance to actual day-to-day performance. Some of the tweaks can easily reduce reliability or cause memory consumption to skyrocket. But it does seem that Apple optimized the benchmarks in its favor. Nevertheless, it is hard to say who would win if both sides engaged in a meaningless tweak-fest.What was interesting, relevant, and does NOT seem faked, was performance on realworld applications like Photoshop, Cubase, and Mathematica. But the biggest issue that is never benchmarked is user productivity. I know that for me, the computer spends far more time waiting for me, than I spend waiting for it -- most day-to-day computer tasks are user-bound, not CPU-bound. Anything a computer maker does to enhance the elegance and consistency of the OS and applications is a real boost to my productivity. If you want the cheapest possible megaflops for batch processing renderfarm that nobody needs to interact with, then maybe wintel stuff is OK. But if you really need to work on the computer with a wide range of applications, then get a Macintosh. At least that my opinion. I have no doubt that the machines in their benchmarking were tuned somewhat. However I would find it very difficult to beleive that they were faked. Most of these rumors are coing from a bunch of PC weenies who just can't handle the fact that someone other than intel or AMD might make a good cheap and that they won't be able to use it. If Intel says their latest x.GHz chip is the fastest they don't all start saying it was faked, of course reviews usually say that it's not quite as fast as they claim, they just don't kick up the same fuss.I'm am sure that the G5 is the fastest desktop computer, for some things, though I doubt all. However all that matters is that Apple isn't stuck with crappy chips from motorola anymore and Apple has a much more positive future now. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

If you read Slashdot, there was an article on there where an Apple source debunked that claim. I believe that whatever tests they performed, if there was a way to optimise the tests on the G5.. they will...also remember that neither of the other 2 systems looked at in apple's graph are 64bit... that'll make a HUGE difference Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" I have alot of posts... if you don't like it than I don't know what to say. |
