hi guys of the 68k MLA,

I signed up a couple of days ago and I would like to introduce myself and my 69k Mac before really starting to post...

name: vollspacken
location: (since june:) Germany, (before:) a small college in north eastern Iowa

I usually read and post on www.macrumors.com but I got hooked on 68k macs while studying in the US. someone gave me an se/30 with 8MB ram and an 80MB drive for free!!! I loved that thing, but the HD crashed and when I went back to Germany after graduation, I couldn't take that machine with me...

but anyway, my first mac was an old IIci my dad bought a couple of years ago. after that we had a then brand new beige G3 266, then I had a iMac DV400 and now I have a 1Ghz tiBook...

HERE comes the interesting part:
when I messed around with that little se/30, it was love at first sight, and I just bought one on German eBay. that machine is in PERFECT condition and I have an Asante ethernet card for it, a 12gig HD and 8x16MB Simms... that thing will be loaded!!!

I also bought an old LC, but only to get my hands on the apple square mouse and an original apple keyboard (I will give the LC to a friend who wants to put linux on it)

I will use the maxed out se/30 for low end word processing (word5, exel5), fileserving when hooked up to my tiBook over an airport extreme basestation by ethernet, and OldSkool gaming... this means that I will actually really use this guy! I'm definitely not a collector...

I'm suprised how many of those machines are still around and I'm also glad that there are still people like you who care for and take care of these fine pieces of engineering.

I'll start with putting the machine together tomorrow.

thanks from a new member

Welcome to the 68kMLA. SE/30s are really cool. They are compact enough to not take up too much space, and expandable enough to be useful. Your SE/30 sound very nice. With such a large harddrive, ethernet card, and that much RAM, your SE/30 does more than it could when it first left the factory.

Have a good time here!

I graduated from Luther in Decorah, a nice small college and I got the degree after only one year (they transfered all my credits from Germany, nice)... it was hard in the first place, since my home university in Muenster, Germany, compares to the University of Wisconsin in Madison... but I still had the best year of my life!!!

With an SE/30 that tricked out, you can't help but run A/UX on it!
