I want to use my old 840av case to house some old games consoles. I have a SNES but also intend to aquire,

NES
Atari 2600/7500
Sega Megadrive
Sega Master system

I think thats all, you'll note that I am going for the very low ednd consoles. Any other low end consoles that I've missed?

I need to open up my SNES, so I'll need that "special screwdriver or I may just smash the case cos it's a bit ugly anyway innit.

How large are these machines without thier casing & how many of them could I fit into an 840av case.

Yes I plan to saw my 840av case, which although not preferable would be required.

I then want the power to go into the 840av case & supply each console in turn but I'm thinking that I had best keep the console on off swithes & somehow mount them on the case.

Finally I plan to use my 1084s monitor if possible, which it may not be for the Atari 2600 for example, though if I get a cheap VCR then I could plug into the VCR & then if the VCR has scart then I can take that to the monitor.

This now seems alot more complicated than when I first thought of it.

Still it would be a cool thing!

Get a cheap video selector unit that you can hook several video outs to then hook that up to the AV ports on the 840, that will solve one solution for you, just use the switch on the selector to choose what device you are letting broadcast.

It's 5:30Am and I can't do any more thinking than that.

Cool project! The trick is to create a good layout that provides access to the cartridge/CD holder. I wondering is you could mount all the games on the inside surface of the 840AV case so that different consoles are on different sides.

I'd bet that you can power all the consoles from the power supply of an old Mac tower. It will just take a bit of electronic detective work to figure out which consoles use which voltages. Worst case, you can use the monitor power plug and a grafted extension cord to run all some wall warts for the consoles. And with a tiny bit of extra circuitry, you can probably rig up a soft power button that turns on all the consoles with the simple touch of a button.

Sounds like it is time to open up all the consoles and measure the boards, and start designing the thing. I'd use graph paper to make little paper models of the boards so you can play around with different arrangements.

I'm looking forward to the new ShaktimanMegaConsole.

though you wouldnt want them all on at the same time ... as for voltages ... just look at the wall warts ... they have all the voltage/current info you need on them
