I'm looking to buy a PDA to keep myself organized. I can't stand my friend's Palm; it feels clumsy and the Graffiti writing is intolerable. I've looked at the Newton's features and it's perfect for what I need it for. However, I'm not sure whether to get a Newton 130 or 2x00. I plan to use it for basic scheduling, taking notes, and e-mail from time to time. I don't plan to use it on the Web often, though it would be nice if it could do at least text-only browsing. I'm leaning toward the MP 130 for budget reasons right now, and the only thing that's holding me back from buying one is some reports that I've read that say it feels slow. What's the speed like on the MP 130 for what I'll be using it for as compared to the MP 2x00?Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

My opinion is to spend your money for a 2100 (or upgraded 2000). There is a huge speed difference in favour of the 2100 and it has more memory. People who own 130s are always looking for a 2100 (never vice versa). Handwriting recognition will be faster and better on a 2100Kami

All in all the 2x00 are better newtons. The handwriting recognition is better and it is zippier. I dont think you will regret buying one of the 2x00's.-------------------- Christophillis- Portable Squadren Commander 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Total 68k Macs Liberated: 6.02x10^23 Or just 6 |

2100 series is the way to go, you'll fill up the 130 too fast and it isn't as easily able to websurf, wireless, & such.

I am looking forward to liberating a Newton soon myself! The difference in the handwriting recognition is largely due to the newer OS (2.1?) used in the MessagePad 2000, 2100, and eMate. I do not know if the older Newtons can be updated to run the newer OS, but I suspect not. Also, most Newtons run a 20-33 mHz range StrongARM cpu, whereas the 2k and 2k1 run like a 160 mHz or so, which I have heard ov being overclocked even much further. The 2k series sound quite robust, even when considering current PDA offerings. And the object-oriented operating system is the most modern I have heard ov for any personal computer to date.
