Greetz y'all!
When I first got to NY about a year and a half ago, my only computer I was travelling with was my 8500ppc, complete with blinking monitor and solid double full-height SCSI box. Even though I have been more devoid ov money than ever I have been psyched to have been given a newer mac (B&W 400), and an older one- Duo280c! My first 68k since my Amiga2000.
I try to do something not dissimilar to music, and lately wanting to try laying down some code, checking out wireless networks around here. This is my first portable, though it doesn't work yet. A friend said he'd broken the battery contacts somehow and was quoted too much ov a repair price, so it got closeted for years.
As flat broke as I am now, I'm going to find a dc adaptor and try to get some batteries to recell. I found a phat link to a site describing recelling ov "type 2" batteries. I might be able to redo the contacts, replace just those- or find a new 270c or 280c logic board. I can hardly wait to try this thing out! Oh yeah, and it's at my parents house a couple hundred miles away.
Other hardware issues are that I would love to replace the 68LC040, with an ordinary 68040, but I got no QFP reworking tools here. It'll just have to wait. Also, I noticed that it uses 2.5" SCSI drives… I don't find many ov these! I have heard ov dual IDE/ SCSI controller boards which work ok with OEM IDE drives from IBM, but could be pricey and/ or scarce. Any suggestions on how I can adapt a drive for a good 4 to 6 gig?
So, if I can scrape up around a hundred dollars, mostly to make some batteries and get a minidock- then I will have this thing running as my 68k dream machine for getting my improbable jams mobile! I intend to run a sort ov MacOS/ MachTen/ Common Lisp sort ov environment.
Here goes!

Hey, somebody dumped this thing on me, it wasn't my idea to get a Duo, though I am psyched. Even when I was like twelve years old I thought that the 68k was elegant. Too bad it takes my broke ass so long!
