I've got two very nice dual-boot Quadra 605s. I've had much fun with these, but I hardly ever use them anymore. Contact me about them at mruben -at- critpath -dot- org.Because I have two of them and some interchangeable equipment, you can "roll your own," as follows:
Base configuration:
- 25MHz 68040 CPU (upgraded from FPU-less 68LC040)
- 36MB RAM
- 1.2GB (1.1GB formatted) Quantum/Apple 1280S low profile SCSI hard drive
- Dual-boot: Mac OS and Linux/Unix
- 512k VRAM for 256 colors
- AC cord
- Good PRAM battery
Price: $19 plus shipping
Optional upgrades:
- Overclock system from 25MHz to 33MHz (including 33MHz-rated CPU): $5
- Boost VRAM to 1MB for thousands of colors: $5
- Add ethernet: $5
- Add keyboard: $5
(Or add all four of the above for only $15)
Important notes:
(1) You have a choice of dual-boot operating System configurations:
EITHER:
- Mac OS 7.6.1 (with Appearance Manager installed) and NetBSD 1.5.2
OR:
- Mac OS 8.1 and Debian Linux 3.0r0
The Linux/Unix installations both have functional X Windows setups and basic user account setups to get you started working with them. And of course if you want I can wipe a HD completely and just install a regular Mac OS setup on it.
(2) The upgrades are only available for one machine. The first person to contact me may configure a machine however he/she wants. The second person's options are limited to whatever upgrades remain.
(3) Non-U.S. folks: shipping will likely exceed the entire cost of the machine itself.
Inquiries: mruben -at- critpath -dot- org.
Thanks!
Matt
