I just started on a new project...a Honda civic hatchback 4 wheel drive. My neighbor got drunk and decided to blow it up by running it without oil, so it shot a rod through the side of the block. So....I can get a short block for $150, but it does not have a head... Last night I pulled the head off the blown motor to see what it looked like, and found that the piston had slammed into the valves and bent them...so now I need a new head for it too. I drilled a hole in the offending "piston" to pull it out, and came up with this: http://68k.dyndns.org/honda/badrice.html Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

I got a '88 civic for free back in '98 and took it out with me from Miami to L.A. A few months later the head blew on its own and I sold it for $400.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Lord of the Mac II Series Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 http://www.cinemafia.net |

OHNO!!! not "the noise!!!" One time I almost got a bus... this is a good story so I'll tell it Across the highway from Stoneway Concrete is a place where a bunch of cars and junk that are for sale are usually parked... they had this decently old bus that was in "fixerup condition" a grand (USD) OBO.... I was going to offer $100 for it (yeah... I know NOW that that was obscenely low...) anyway... when I finally got ahold of the guy he had sold it... Well, the reason I have not posted is because of this stupid car I got a short block with 60k miles on it, and a disassembled head for $180. A head rebuild set was $110, so I have $290 in it so far. Yesterday I pulled the blown engine with a little help from my neighbor and a 2x4. I was taking the old head apart to get valve retainers tonight, until one of those retainers launched from the valve stem, bounced off my forehead, and flew into the great black hole area in my garage The body is in bad shape, but I know how to weld, and my dad can get some school bus yellow for free. I want to put a black stripe on it and call it the "bumble bee" and make it sound like one, or...a weedwhacker...or whatever you call that "noise" here's the latest pics: http://68k.dyndns.org/honda/badriceproject.html Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

quick updateI rebuilt the head tonight...I hate those stupid valve retainers...and crappy cam bearings...and...everything. I feel some dejavu or however you spell it coming on... Thinking back to the thread about your 17" monitor... What would your parents do if you bought one anyway? Didn't tell them, just did it? That's what I'd do.... Eventually the dust would settle (if there was an issue) and if there was something wrong with it, I'd get a told you so and that'd be it... maybe a short lecture on how I shouldn't waste my money.

Speaking of Civics, I just got a '96 Civic LX in incredible shape as a late 16th birthday present. I'd like to put a CD changer in it, because the people at Honda decided to put the alarm system and keyless entry inside the factory radio. Has anyone here tried the kits available on eBay with a CD changer in the trunk? Is it as difficult to install as it looks?Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

Lucky. My parents would most likely either sell it without my permission, possibly keeping the money, or ban me from using computers for a while. The PAF of this car project is way too positive, it is almost scary. Today my dad went to get some parts for the Honda, and my mom has purchased a variety of tools for this project also.I have good news about the car, and bad news about my webserver. I pretty much have the engine built for the rice burner, after more than 10 hours of work. The valve timing was kinda hard to set, until I noticed the tiny arrow on the block, and the dot on the crank pulley No pics from today posted, because of reasons below: Today, at about 8:00 a.m., my webserver that survived a surge yesterday, lost its power supply when hit by ANOTHER surge caused by some more storms. Anyone got a 61xx/610/660av power supply they can part with?? I am definitely getting a UPS after this. Edit: I managed to get the ambition to swap the 6100 out for the trusty 'ol 605, so the links should work again. eeeeeeek! It seems that Honda Civics are extreemely common on the 68kmla! I've got one, too! It's a 1990 with a 4-speed(yech!!!) There was a 1992 Civic at the local scrapyard that might have had a better transmission, but they hauled it away before I could take a look at it.Anyway, you should know that the 1990-1991 5-speeds get about 40 MPG, which is why I chose it of all cars. It was leaking some oil, but I'm too lazy to fix it. I think it's comeing from either the distributor, or the oil pan, or both. Then it probably needs a valve job, too. Oh well. Good luck on your project quote: Has anyone here tried the kits available on eBay with a CD changer in the trunk? Is it as difficult to install as it looks?
Yes. You usually have to drill holes into your precious car to bolt it in. Then you have to find a way to get wires all the way from your trunk to the dash. I used to be into this kind of thing, too, until I tired of popular music. See my post in Boycotting the RIAA. Just get a top end gasket set, and a pan gasket. The gasket set comes with new valve seals, head gasket, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, camshaft oil seal, distributor O ring, fuel injection O rings, rocker assembly O rings, spark plug wire seals, coolant inlet/outlet seals, throttle body gasket, and too much more for me to remember. A valve job is not hard at all, as long as you have a valve spring compressor of some sort, even if it is vice grips, a 15mm wrench, and a rocker bolt. Oh, and you would definitely need a torque wrench to do such a repair. The top end gasket set is $110, but well worth it. And just Hondas in general. I drive an (automatic) '96 Accord. I badly need a TransPod II* for it, though, as it only has a cassette player.

The realtime 4wd civic is kinda rare and the stick shift one is even more rare, I think they were only made for a couple years. All gears seem to work fine, and the clutch is in good shape. Look at the pictures- there is a transfer case and directions to disengage the 4wd. Every parts store around said they had never sold a part for one oh, and btw, I got it running yesterday, since the rain killed any cookouts and stuff we were goin to have. It runs way to good for an engine that I built

I just took it for a spin to the Gomer cemetary, it's a blast to drive! The clutch has plenty of meat left and the transmission shifts good. It needs a new left front outer cv joint, complete brakes, and major body work- but the air still blows cold.... oh, and i just opened a letter that was laying on the dataline's keyboard saying I made it into the final 10 candidates (out of like 100 some) for an apprenticeship for tool and die work at Grob Systems! HELL YEA! I've made it through 2 cuts so far, and this is the last: an interview on wednesday July 9th.
