Well, the other day when i went to reseat my 64 meg SO-DIMM, i took out the mobo tray, as per usual, and i noticed that there was rust on the top of the cage thing that houses the CPU and RAM. (Tray loading CRT iMac owners will know what I'm talking about). Yes, I know that unpainted metal is vulnerable to rust in places such as beach houses, but all my other Macs, and all my PCs, including ones that I've had here for the last 4 years, are all 100% rust free. Weird."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

It's possible that piece was not properly rust-treated when it was made.Homeland Defense Analyst http://www.inourowndefense.com |

I've seen that before....Out of comps I have rescued from the rain . That is incredibly weird. The Doctor seems to have the best explanation. ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? I didn't know that they rust treated computers at all when they be built I was under the impression that it was a good idea to keep computers out of the rain and you'd be happy of course with MacLovers' motherboard washing and his "sea air" there may be some different factors going into his problems Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life"

It's not so much that the part would be rust-treated as that it would be galvanized or something similar.Homeland Defense Analyst http://www.inourowndefense.com |

Yeah, imagine if common humidity cause ur comp to rust and just stop working in a time of a cpl months. Man, I shouldn't have said that, it will be HP's 'next big thing'..."In order to shave a couple bucks off of our motherboards, we now will produce them with "different," more "advanced" techniques..." ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? WHAT? And since WHEN did i wash my iMac's mobo? The only mobo I ever had to wash was that poor Performa 5260 back at the Shop! I've experienced this first hand. If you live in an area where the humidity is 85 percent or more, than you should probably use a dehumidifier.Never put a computer in a damp basement! All bare metal on the case will rust, especially where it has been handled. If the basement is moldy, too, then when the mold finds the metal case, it will accelerate the corrosion. Any bare copper surfaces or solder joints that have not been properly defluxed will also corrode under these conditions. Properly defluxed boards and "laquered" traces will not usually rust under these conditions, but why take a chance? Just make sure that it's not too dry, as this will promote static electricity which is also bad.
