I am looking for several of you MLA'rs to come and jump onto my forums, just to test the bandwidth and server mainly. If you are interested, hop to:
http://torpedobird.com/~magicpenguin/phpBB2/

Please post back honestly about speed, performance, and all that jazz. Content over there is not important, just test out the features!
TIA

Cool! Seems to work fine, and I was getting between 4.5 and 11.3 kbp/s on my dialup, which is about as fast as it goes!

Very nice, loaded at 9.5K/sec on DSL. Took about 4 seconds to load the main page . I'll have to try it on my LC next chance I get .Go to Top of Page

Basically I'm trying to compare them against what we have here, and seeing what kind of speed we need, or if this is sufficient enough. The more users and such will impact that greatly, but I'm still very interested whether it is more the end server or the line that needs more power.

Well if your "Who is Online" box is right there have only been 2 users online at the same time so far . Just wanted to congratulate you on your excellent job with your forum, it looks (dare I say it) better than 68kMLA on my LC 580 as far as layout is concerned. Gotta love 640x480 screens . It loaded in 10 seconds in iCab, but I have no way to measure the speed in K/sec.Go to Top of Page

hehehe... are you finding out if it'll work with the MLA replacemtne forums? it'd be so cool if the MLA were served on a fellow MLAer's website

If my line allows it ( I have unlimited bandwidth/month, but not speed...) I will look into it. I ahve to get php and perl installed AT THE SAME TIME on this machine before I give the go ahead to much of anything. They both hate each other I have determined, or just me. If people can give me a side by side comparison between these and mine, it will help greatly.

Right now mod_perl will not load into apache, giving me relocation errors. It had worked before, but mod_php wasn't installed. So either they don't like each other, or perl is just stoopid.

Just don't forget the difference between a few people on your board and the amount that must be on here at any givin time. The size of the DB is also going to be much more extensive and harder to load. It would be a good idea to talk to Kahloz at kahloz.net forums who has a great deal of experience in running both and currently does have his forums served from his home.

Exactly my point Stryder . I am 80% sure my machine could never handle the MLA, specially on my connection. However it should give us a rough test of what to look for IMO. If the information helps ~coxy, cool, if not, its just another guys personal forums.
