<does happy dance>do do do, do do do

One Power Colour Classic Running at 300 MHz

I finally found a 6500/300!!!!!! I got a good price on it to and some extra RAM and PCI nic, once I sell those it'll have cost around 25 USD!

It also turned out my 6360 board wasn't dead, the PRAM was though which caused all sorts of problems with the video, I couldn't diagnose it on the CC because the monitor only supports 640*480, however I chucked it in the 6500 case and it runs fine as is the video

<happy dance><happy dance>

So this project has only taken 13 months to complete! The actual work only took about 3 days it just took a long time gathering all the parts especially the 3.3v regulator so I can use PCI cards in it. My parents are going to send over my TV tuner and AV card, then all I need are some Apple speakers and a presentation kit, it'll be a sweet little media center and console emulation box

<happy dance><happy dance>

p.s. I took pics of the whole procedure and will start work on a nice illustrated guide soon.

Sweet! I don't suppose you'd be interested in adapting my mobo adapter so I can move on with my PowerCC project? If you're even mildly interested, please drop me a line - I'm sure I can make it worth your while, either with some dough or a cool trade (or whatever).
I can't wait to see your pics!

Do you mean you have an adaptor you want modified? or you want me t modify my spare one and trade it with you. If it's the former we'll see if we can sort something out, if it's the latter I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I currently have quite a few spare parts and a couple of ideas...

Spare parts include 6500 but with 6360 mobo, I also have a PowerTowerPro mobo and case, a 7600 mobo and a quad 133 processor card, a voodoo 5, a DVD decoder and a dual channel IDE card.

Option one, transfer 6500 guts and 6360 mobo to metal brief case, then I'd have a nice rugged Mac that I'm not sure what I'd do with, although it could run the BeOS but the PCC can do that anyway. Or I could build it in to a cool perspex case, have a neat light up Mac and give it to my younger brother.

I could build up the 7600 board and quad processor card and make a kick ass Be box.

Or I could build up the PTP pro and have a really big BeBox that's just a bit too big, decisions decisions

COOL!!!

you could send the quad 133 to me (or not)

You could probably put the quad 133 in the PTP pro, while doing whatever with the 6x00 junk and then have the PTP's proc in the 7600 motherboard... then the PTP = BeBOX, 7600 = General Junk, 6x00 = "whatever you were going to do with that anyway"

Just in the name of maximizing your parts

I don't have the original proc card for the PTP, it had the quad card when I got it, I actually have a 120 MHz 601 for the 7500 (thought it was a 7600) board but it's pretty much useless.

I was || that close to breaking out the soldering iron and o'c ing the 6360 to 200 MHz, i though I just had to remove one resistor but I also have to solder one on, unfortunately i don't have any of them...

Anyway i'm trying to install BeOS 4.5 on the 6360 now but it's having issues, I've partitioned the drive but it won't get past the Be splash screen, I'm not sure if it's because the 6360's PRAM bat is dead or because of the 6500's CD drive, it takes absolutely ages to boot from the CD drive although booting from the HD is OK, I think somebody might have switched the CD drive for some cheap rubbish, ASP gets stuck when trying to detect the devices and volumes, having said that CD's mount fine...

hmm...my 7300 has 2 hard drives so I probably copied the whole BeOS CD onto my 1.2 GB along with OS8.1 for booting and did the install from there...

ahh IC... I think no matter how you go (it seems like you have 3 working computers, if you get a 7x00 PSU) you'll be happy with the end result... especially if you use BeOS with quad processors on the 7x00 board (7600 and 7500 have AV in!)

BeOS is a great multimedia OS and takes advantage of multiprocs IIRC

Hey-
Sorry, I should've been more clear - I have the adapter I removed from my 6400/180, but I've not messed with it to make it work (with my 6500/275 mobo) in the CC system... I'm assuming that's (more or less) what you did, but it seems to be pretty far from anything I'll be able to do.
So, if you're interested, lemme know - maybe we can still work out a cool deal...

OS 9 flies, obviously, 6500/300's were the fastest desktop computers for a while, I'd prefer 128 MB of RAM but it's only really for console emulation and MP3 gubbins, not sure where to mount the remote receiver.

Anyway I'm going to put the 4 gig drive in tonight and put the sheilding back on. Eventually I'll make my own custom blanking plate for the back to tidy it up but I've got some case building projects lined up so I'll wait til they are under way and I have some scraps.

I'm sending you an email Spaceboy
