Yeah, if we could get this puppy converted over to phpBB, that'd be really cool. And for all those who are skeptical about 68k compatibility, the MacAddict Forums behave really well on an LC475 with a 14.4k modem running Netscape 4. Netscape 3 Gold even does the new generation style PHPBB and Invisionboards. In fact, Netscape 3 produces less errors with those than this board. But then again, this board is setup different, so that may be why. But to be honest, it might just be better and easier to start fresh, and just make a html archive of everything that is here so far. I think if/when we switch, we set around a month or so to do it. This way we can lock down topics here, and open new ones on the phpBB2 ones. Once these old ones are done with after that month, we lock them up for good, and html archive them.~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? If we do move to a phpBB based forum, we definatly need to contact GUI at MAF, and see if we can get the Display Prefrences Mod they designed. This way, we can have avatars and images, as well as the ability to deactivate them for dialup and 68K users.------------------ Captain Z - Mobile Operations Commander 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 31 68K Macs Liberated Visit Captain Z's Starbase of EV Stuff |

I've gotten PHPbb to work just for notetaking on my laptop... so I've pretty much gotten a handle on PHPbb administration and the like... (that is to say... administration as much as what is needed for a one guy forum on his powerbook)I like the appearance of PHPbb per what ist I've seen and I really like how each user can have their own view... "if only"I'd host it on my own server but to say the least I have permission for when I have my server and the "wireless internet" to serve on it.... but I'm not sure if a forum with the traffic that the MLA gets... :P it's equivelant of a T1 shared across this whole podunk valley... and my server is either a 700 MHz AMD Athlon =with 320 MB of RAM or a 400 MHz Pentium II with 384 MB of RAM (if my 256 stick'll work) dunno how that compares to penguin's line though... I'm going to throw some of my own forums up this weekend, just for fun and meself, and if people wanna try to flood my bandwidth all at one time and see what kind of results they get, that would be fun! And I guess lock would be the wrong term, but more "slowly shut down and stop posting in them." If we had two forums going at once for more than a month, what is the point? ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? but it seems as if they are talking about doing it all wierd like.... why dont you get the converter, shut down snitz, transfer everything from snitz over and then open back up... we'd be down a lil while, but i think we'd all live... and i thought they said they have the converter.... ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com da band: http://www.burningabbey.com |

I just think it would be better to have both places open while we "beta" the phpbb2 forums. There are a lot of goood, active threads all throughout the boards here, and if we ever switched at all, I think it should be gradual. MAF did it that way IIRC and it worked well.~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? all the "good" active topics from here would be on the new boards ... as will every thread from this forum ... so whats the point in having duplicates back here that will be replied too ... then these replys wont be on the new forums ... the only time when having both open for a while would be if there wasnt a converter from Snitz to phpBB ... but there is ... as cats said in the first post of this topicbtw ... cats ... could you email the converter to me please ... it would be useful to have Orcadian MLA Division 68ks Liberated: 2 |
