I'm not looking forward to tomorrow......

My mum is coming to pick me up tomorrow.

I have an AppleVision 1710 in my closet.

Every time my parents have been here this term, they have declined to take the AppleVision 1710 home.

My mum is coming to pick me up tomorrow, as said before, and she's gonna totally flip when she sees the 1710!!!!!

What should i do, other than getting rid of the 1710?

No i haven't. And all my friends that i see regularly outside of class live on campus, and we have to empty out our rooms so that they can rent them to external guests.

just ask your parents if you can take it with you... Even if you have to set it on your lap for the whole ride... I've taken iMacs and monitors and junk with me in the jeep wrangler... it's not a wagon...

1) Can you box it up and mail it to yourself?

2) Are there any rental storage units in your area? There must be some local place that will rent storage space to uni student, like yourself, who needs to stsh stuff for a few months. Ask around, somebody might know of a place.

Yes, I suppose that's true. But could he mail it to a friend and tell the friend to mail it back to him when he returns to the uni? He could even affix the return postage under a removable sheet of paper or in an attached envelope. (i.e. The mail is a storage place that costs one round-trip of postage but has a definite chance of trashing the monitor)

Thanks for all your ideas. Apparently we're staying at a friend's place about an hour from here, so if we miss out on something, we can come and get it the next day. But still...wish me luck!

how about you just be like, "I'm not a kid anymore, and I'm taking this home! If you don't want to see it, just don't come in my room!!!!" I really don't understand all this PAF stuff... I never have problems with my parents and buying stuff and things like that... I just do, and when it shows up, they're like,[sarcasm] ooo a new item to add to your giant pile of garbage in the basement! great! [/sarcasm] but seriously... they dont really have anything to say... i will say this though... They are VERY happy I'm selling it all...

heh... with my parents it's always a space issue... and with DAD (dad is my only PAF blocker)

I really need some clever way to get more stuff in a single square foot of space (on the floor and up)

hehehe... PAF is weired... but it's not like everyone does or doesn't have PAF... PAF is a measure of how much your parents approve... not the stopping force for fun in your life...

I'd say that my paf is "very low"

llama or someone might say that they have 100% PAF

When I was young ( A long time ago in a galaxy far away) my parents would bitch everytime I purchased a computer, car stereo part, home stereo stuff, etc. it was always what do you need it for, save your money for a rainy day etc. I basically just purchased whatever I wanted when I had the cash for it and they got off my back once they seen that I wasnt buying stuff that I couldnt afford.

Then again I had a steady job during high school all the way untill about 2 years ago (from 1986-2001) hard to get an engineering job lately but I had cash saved up and doing fine.

I think your parents dont want you buying crap you dont need while your in college (not sure who is paying your tuition). Just tell them it was free, you already have it, and your taking it home. Not like that monitor will take up the whole house or anything.

Thought you guys might like to know that everything's fine. No heart attacks happened, and no shock therapy happened, either. Also, the sneaked PB145B is still protected by me, after spending all afternoon racing around the place like a fussy supercharged HRT 427. Man i needed that sleep in the car...

Glad to hear all went well.

My opinion on others in your (anyone, not just ml5) life objecting to the fact that you collect/have/own computer hardware is that it must be nice that their life is so boring that this seems like a problem. With the news full of examples of truly terrible behavior owning a computer just doesn't seem like a bad thing to me. My wife would probably like me to have less hardware but since this interest is what got me my job and pays the bills all she asks is that I keep it in my computer room out of her sight.

Yep! And whats even better, is that...yesterday...i took the base off it...and......it matches my Sound enclosure! Which means.....i can turn it into a 1710AV! Man there was some good stuff in that pile! Well, apart from the Ipex monitors anyway, which i believe got dumpstered....
