Sorta, I traded a 6100 for a Palm and I thought that it had 40mbs ram and didn't so I had to drag the 32 out mine for him, but to my suprise I found some 2 sticks combing to 40 more than the 36 I had, and yes I had 20megs left over the other day now I have 40 hehe. But I know when I get my Performa 6300 this quadra will be there server with 2Gig hds and 68Mbs ram maxed, it won't be slow like now cause I use Netscape 4, AIM, Hotline, and IRC all at the same time with 3 apps that run the server so its slow, when my performa comes in this will be all but a server

Um, do you do any research before you buy things? The 6300 is a member of the <scarcasm>elite</scarcasm> 5200, 5300 and 6200 family. In a nutshell, these were the worst Macs ever made and should be avoided at all costs (the 6360 is an exception, because of a different mobo)

The IIvx was by far the worst, IMHO.
Imagine buying that turkey about two weeks before the Quadra release!
I think it was only on the market about 3 months before it was hopelessly outdated.

The Performa 5xxx/6xxx line computers (except the 6360 as previously mentioned) run SLOWER than many moderatly-fast quadras, with a good amount of RAM.

I have one of these, and my sister uses it to read fanfic. To see it run PageMaker (NOT a very intensive programme) makes me (almost) want to use it on winblows instead.

The x400s are alright, tho. The issue with the eariler models is the crippled processor on the tiny bus. Anyway, are you EVER going to get a server online? We do have a hotline server running fine...

Hence the term, "I've been IIvx'ed!!", to be used whenever Apple releases a far superior product to the one you bought new a couple months ago, but for the same (or even less!) price.

I have a 6115. It makes me sick. I could do the number crunching faster by hand than this thing. Bleh.

lets clear this up.

good computers:
5400
5500
6360
6400
6500

bad computers:
5200
5300
62xx
63xx (besides the 6360, of course)

the first gen Power Macs (61xx, 7100, 8100) didn't have the issues that the 52xx, 53xx, 62xx, 63xx did.

(candyPunk-how much RAM do you have/what OS are you running on your 6115?)

Damn betcha! 6360's rock! add the 50mhz mobo, slave device support for the IDE and FPD/TPD support and I couldn't even find any fault with 'em.

Didn't they have their own problems with NuBus implementation pr some such?
jt
p.s. to get this thread back on AN APPROPRIATE *....."raises one eyebrow".......clumsily* TOPIC, Apple should have fixed the ENTIRE Q630 form factor line (and its PPC mini tower and all-in-one derivatives) with a REAL FREAKIN' COMM PORT, not that phantom-b.s.-lose-the-modem-port-with-anything-but-ethernet (thank heaven for that small slip-up...errrrr......favor!) piece of S............
IMHO, of course ;-)
