Hey all,Found a Daystar card for sale, and it says compatibile with the LC series and Quadra's. It lists the LC 475. Is the PDS slot the same as the 575? Thanks! |

The daystar powercard doesn't fit in the LC PDS compatible slot, it goes directly into the 68040 processor socket. In short, the 68040 is removed, the powercard is plugged into the socket left behind, and the 68040 is then plugged back into the powercard, so the powercard has both the original 040 and the new 601 CPU on the card. The card -does- stop the LC PDS compatible slot from being used too. Daystar's manual on the powercard ( ftp://ftp.linkology.com/daystar/documents/PowerPC601/Man_PowerCard601.pdf ) has more info. dana

Thanks for all the info everyone! Now I am wondering if the card is worth buying. I wanted it to make a 601 Color Classic. (Have a 575 board in it all ready). But if I lose ethernet... well then it aint such a great hack... Hmmmmmmm..... Thanks!

You lose LC-PDS slot ethernet capability -- but you can still get a comm slot I ethernet card. That said, many folks believe that there's no point in putting a PowerCard in there unless it's the very rare 100MHz model (most are 66MHz). I happen to have a "PowerMystic" with a 66MHz 601 card and a comm slot I enet card. I can confirm that it's only slightly faster than a normal Mystic with a 33MHZ 68040 (that's a full '040, not a 'LC040). But it is fun to have the unit, and it's nice to be able to run any software and not have to worry about whether it's PPC-only or not.
