hmm... i think it'd be a fun project to Tempest-shield the Model 30. It's not useful for much else so i think im gonna make it spy-proof

Anybody know how to do this? or should i just google around for it...

I'm gonna add this, making the Model 55 LS a webserver, and the Llama-80 to the Kevcave as soon as i get home from work, which is where i'm posting from now...

and as for the 55 webserver, which is better and more secure:
- FreeBSD
- OpenBSD
- NetBSD
- Linux (preferably not, i dont want to use Linux)
- Some other *IX

disregard that last post. NetBSD is the only OSS *IX that supports the MicroChannel architecture which is used only in IBM PS/1's and PS/2's...

But the Tempest shielding still sounds like fun...

Yes I do know. Some quick issues that you might overlook.

1. Intelligence can be recovered from the ac power. This will need to be filtered.

2. Intelligence can be recovered from the CRT display. No unwanted access to the CRT can be allowed. Including the light detected from under the door. Displays can also produce radio signals. These will need to be blocked.

3. All audio and visual sources have to be contained by the room in which the machine is used. Otherwise they can be used.

Most of the info you want is on the net if you look hard enough. Remember, attention to detail is the requirement for this to work.

Wow. i had no idea that intelligence could be recovered from AC power! thats crazy...

I knew about the RF from the monitors being picked up, and i'm planning to shield one of the PS/2 Color Monitors i picked up with the computers.

What about drives? how should i shield the floppy drive and hard drive?

Remove them? Or put a TEMPEST appoved door on the front of the machine that you open to put disks in?

floppy drive???

HAR!!!

just keep all the files on the hard drive because if the machine has tempest sheilding... the data must be SO valuable that you don't want it to get off of your computer...

similarly, any important file you must "pad" in size to OVER 1.44 MB... (at least if you want to take over the world... you don't want the enemy to walk away with "the program" )

heh its not that theres anything on the computer that demands that it be Tempest-shielded, i just want to do it.

i guess i'll have to make my own drive doors, as the floppy drive just has an open slot... and what should i make the case out of?
