So I suppose everyone knows about sony's heavy involvement with the powerbook 100... but I came across a small interesting tidbit at:

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/1997/q3/970508.pr.rel.pb2400c.html

"Apple, along with subsidiary, Apple Japan, collaborated with IBM Japan to develop the PowerBook 2400c. The notebook is manufactured for Apple by IBM Japan's Yamato Lab, a recognized innovator in the notebook market with in-depth knowledge of the Japanese market."

2400c notebooks were IBM-made-powerbooks. cool!

Ah, yes. iRemember reading about that in MacAddict back in the good ol' days of 1997....as a "PeeCee basher", i was surprised, very surprised.

Yeah, the 4400 was basically a Tanzaina board in a fugleee PC case with an Apple logo on it....well it wasn't that fugleee, but it's nowhere near as nice as a Performa 6500, and the case is a complete biatch to work with!

No way. The 6500 case is a breeze to work on, compared tot he 4400, or almost any PC.

Yeah, I knew that.

It's also interesting that the 2400 and the Sony-made 100 are the hardest Apple notebooks to work on. Right after the iBooks, of course. Wonder who built them... Dell?

Personally, i think IBM r0x0rs (its my second favorite computer company after Apple, both for software and hardware, and actually theyre tied for first on software...) so i want a 2400c now!

As far as working on the motherboards performas are pretty easy to pull apart, but have you ever tried replacing a drive in a 6500/6400!!!!!!!!! Obviously not!

I would go as far as to say working on a generic ATX case is easier than working on a Performa tower overall!

But neither an ATX PC or a Performa classifies as a notebook, does it?

hehehe... IIRC the 4400 was made by like... Acer or something... (which is OK with me...)

diod you know that HP made the stylewriter 4400 and 4500 and that canon made both portalble stylewriters, many of the LaserWriters and almost all of the other StyleWriters....

IIRC it was canon who did apple's scanners too

As Dana said before, yes, the 4400 WAS made by Acer. As for Apple's printers, yeah, the 4400 and most/all of their lasers were made by HP, and most of their other inkjets were Canons.

sometimes I think as though I should "just forget" about it... because dad would never want it in here... he's unhappy with my small lil' typewriter stand (holding TiBook) as it is...

Most early lasers are based on a Cannon engine. Many were built by HP. This means if you find an Apple laser printer, you can probably swap parts from an HP to fix it. (not always). I'm still looking for an AC power module for a HP LJ IId and then I'll have a duplex printing laser in the house.

BTW, If you have an Apple Personal Laserwriter (lc / nt, looks like a LJ IIIp) don't leave them on. They have a design flaw that causes a chip to burn out. Use em, turn them off and they're great.

actually it's not his problem with macs... he woudln't let me bring in either of the older PCs I want to do stuff with also...

what I really want is just ANY other computer... :sigh:

I just have to say that... "something"

I could keep all of my computers and junk in and this desk... but it'd be pretty small
