hey all,
today me and a friend picked up some old computers from our school (more coming tomorrow). there was 3 today, 2 of which were 5400/200's and the other was a rev. a iMac. he got the iMac so i've got these 5400's sitting around. i'm planning on installing Yellow Dog Linux on one of them but it appears that 5400's aren't supported in v2.3. i can't find any information about this, but i heard a rumor that they weren't a while back. any thoughts here? thanks,
brett

5400s work great with YDL 2.3, but IIRC, you have to use the 2.2 kernel for everything to work right.

YDL 3.0 is out on ISO now. I haven't tried it yet, but it's always good to have the latest version with open source software.

BSD will not work on the machine because of some discrepancies in the Open Firmware implementation (it will not send output to the monitor at boot).

well, i set one of them up for my sister to play Exile on, and one will be my Linux machine. another is, sadly enough, a foot rest. i haven't decided what to do with the fourth one.

WOW!!! FOUR 5400s!!!!

If I had 4 5400s I'd set them up in a little row and have them like... set up with an OS9 "macintosh manager" server for "identical lab setupness"...
