I've been wading my way thru apple's web site for the past hour or so, and I am now a little confused. How do I update OSX 10.0.4 to 10.1 - ultimately I want to update to 10.1.5 but it seems that I have to do it sequentially. Problem is that i can't find 10.1 anywhere - is this an upgrade I need to pay for? (in which case i'll jump straight to 10.2.x)

any help appreciated

cheers

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation.

You can't update to 10.1 from 10.0 same with 10.2 they're too much of major differences.

I thought that 10.0.x to 10.1.x was a free upgrade. I don't know if there was a 10.1 updater on the net. I remember there being cds in the store. I got one with my mac since it shipped with 10.0.x

Well this is where I am confused. Apple used to have a 10.1 update, but then they said "use x.x.x Security Update instead" and they removed the 10.1 download link. I can't update 10.1.x without 10.1, so I'm screwed I guess.

It's weird coz I have updated OS X Server on another Mac from 10.0.x to 10.1.x, but of course the server updates do not work with client versions of X

In any case, X does not like my 'antique' 8600/G3 much. It doesn't even see the 4x Teac CD burner (I'm not suprised though), and I'm getting weird results in Classic.... I'm really just experimenting for when I do get a decent Mac.

OK, more info...

http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/2001/09/25/osx/

Mac OS X 10.1 will retail for $129 new and will be a free upgrade for purchasers of previous versions of Mac OS X through October 31. It will be available in the retail chain and through Apple's retail stores. There is also a shipped CD upgrade for $19.99. Attendees of the Seybold, San Francisco conference can pick up an upgrade CD at Apple's booth, and free copies were distributed to keynote attendees. The upgrade will not be available for download.

So you need a cd.
