And proud of it. Welcome to the future everybody! I love it. I bought a new album and listened to it in under 3 minutes. It's on my iPod and ready to go. Yes!

not compared to the price of hard to find albums. you can pay upwards of thirty dollars for a mail order CD, wheras on the iTunes music store, you can enjoy it for ten bucks.

just my thoughts, as one who listens to obscure music.

The jazz selection still isn't great, but it's improving.

pppft. digital "quality". analog is WAY better! it's just sound waves! no 1's and 0's and no sampling rate and no compression rate. none of that crap. ANALOG BETTER! (well, tape isn't the best, but brecords are the best, if kept up)

analog degrades, physicallity degrades.....

digital is there forever (if you remember to shuffle it around often enough to new media that it stays)

At the audiophile level, I'm not going to discus Analog vs Digital. It's to much like Mac vs PC. Enjoy your opinions.

AMS is a great thing! I do not buy music new due to my opinions on the music industry. You can have a hard time finding music used. AMS offers music at $2 over the average price of a used CD in this area. And I didn't have to go find it. I also have bought tracks off albums that I only want 1 or 2 tracks, $1 a track works there.

As with all things, you can trade time for money and money for time. There are many times that AMS is a great value for me.

$1 a song is not ideal, but for really great ones, it's livable. $10 an album is fine with me!

$1 a songs not bad, especially if you don't want the whole album. It is however worth it for the whole alcum if you live miles from a decent music store or it's something hard to find. If you add on the cost of transportation to a music store AMS starts looking even better.

Of course I think about 60% of the money is still going to the record labels so you can't blame Apple entirely for the price. It's also the fault of the big labels that it's not available outside the US. The range of course should hopefully improve steadily and it'll be interesting to see what happens when the PC people start using it, Apples releasing iTunes for windows isn't it?

Speaking of music I'm very releived to have just gotten my MP3 player back! I came over to Australia with all my music on my Archos jukebox thinking it would be great to have all the music in such a small space and not need boxes of CDs, only for it to break down after I got here! So finally after about 8 months I have it back and working! Yipee!

I bought a 4-song vinyl EP from Off the Record in San Diego over the weekend for $4, so it came out to $1 per song. I'll "rip" it soon, it's some cool stuff from back in '98...forgot the name of the band.

Anyway, I still haven't bought anything from the ITMS. I also haven't bought a CD in more than 2 years, as I only believe in paying money for vinyl/black wax/plates.

QUADROPHONIC SOUND!!!!

hehehe, the best soundsystems have no chips (or even transistors), have amps that need to warm up, and can zap the hell out of you if you touch them in the wrong place

have you guys listened to dts audio cd's? I have a few and they sound so good. Pink Floyd was meant to be played in 5.1 audio.

As far as cd vs records:
Records sound worse every time you play them.
CD's sound the same untill they cant be read.

Analog is better then digital only when the digital cant sample enough points to reproduce whats going on in the analog wave. The new SACD format is better then any normal cd or any high end record player, asuming your equipment can decode it.

I have heard vinyls that sound better than any, digital music I have ever heard. It would just kinda depend on what you like though.

Most people hearing is shot above 15k hz anyway (mine isnt)

Some people like the distortion of tube amps still, to each his own. Technically SACD is the state of the art in audio for the moment. A few of the audiophiles I know swear by them (and they have huge vinyl collections.

The thing is quite a bit of the records made never made it to tape let alone cd, so your stuck listening to them on vinyl. Just like alot of great movies on VHS never made it to DVD yet, and alot never will.

first of all i like listening to foreign music which is unavailible here in stores. Some online retailors such as Amazon will carry them but look at this album by Ayumi Hamasaki from Japan. OVER $60US!!!

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004R7IE/qid=1054171324/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-2247111-5364901?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

I also like CDs. I have a record player but no stereo to play it on. I will eventually get to ripping all the LPs i can find to CD. I will also eventually try to rip all my audio cassettes to CD also. I like a medium that i can play pretty much anywhere. for me thats CDs plain and simple. I even like my movies on CD. Eventually i will get to converting my VHS collection to VCD or SVCD. I refuse to buy VHS tapes anymore. I only buy DVD. I just like using discs a lot. and I'll probably keep using CDs and DVDs even after they're replaced by something better.

Almost reminds me how a couple of years ago, back in the days in which i had only 35 MP3s, I spent hours putting them all onto cassettes so i could listen to 'em on my walkman. Now, of course, i just burn a CD.

I never got into mp3's that much, compression was kinda sucky. I download alot of lossles cd images off the newsgroups and burn them to cd, have a few hundred classics on cdr now, good thing my old alpine cd player in the car reads cdr's fine.

MP3s just don't cut in me basement, but its not a terrible, terrible difference, but you can tell the CD is better. dts/SA CDs rock my world, and I wish they would be adopted faster, now that everyon ehas DVD drives that support them.

In response to the quality of iTMS, it's good. It's 128bit AAC, which is supposedly equivalent to 256bit MP3. Sure sounds like a CD to me. I don't have a 10 foot speaker to play it through or anything, but I doubt that my ear could ever tell the difference between this and a CD. It's certainly worth what it cost.

Interesting. Thing is though, a lot of old amps sound a lot better than new ones. I've learnt this from experience.
