I have a Appletalk to Ethernet converter because the 631CD didn't come with an ethernet port. Is it possible to connect to my cable modem through my router using the Appletalk port? If not, where can I get myself a Ethernet card and how much do they run? |

Ditch the AppleTalk to Ethernet converter, it'll be painfully slow. What you want is an Apple Ethernet Comm I card, which will give you 10bt or 10Mbps speed RJ45, which is enough for consumer broadband. You can get one off eBay for about $15 including shipping.Bear in mind that because yours is the Performa model, it doesn't have an FPU, and that will make web browsing fairly slow. You can swap in a full 040 (with FPU) for another $15-$20 or so. 666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! Well, I guess I don't have any hard facts, but having used both an 68LC040 and an equally clocked 68040 over a 1.5Mbps connection, with all things else equal, the full 040 tended to browse noticeably faster.666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! |

Serial->Ethernet = bad, burn it, throw it in front of a moving car, whatever - just get rid of it
You don't need to get a CommSlot card. You also have the option of a LC PDS ethernet card. Don't know what the speed difference is, if there's any. -------------------- FireWire is fast General, 4 star beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ |

Well, he might as well get the comm slot card, since it's either that or a modem, and save the PDS slot for a TV tuner or something.666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! |

Video system has a mobo slot, but the TV tuner goes in a bay above the cpu drawer next to the video daughtercard card, both are connected to the ribbon cable harness. Definitely go with the com slot for 10bt, leave the LC PDS for a pc compatability card or a high res video card. The com slot card can be used in everything from 630-6360. jt
