Well, this is a mod, but I'm not a general, so I can't post it in the Warroom ;-)Anyway, I thought a long time before I did this (I'm not finished yet) but well, it seems to work out! What did I do? Well, I took apart a Mac SE, which already had a dented case and I really had no use for it anymore (I do have all the parts still, and I guess it's still in working order, maybe for another project). I painted the case of the SE black and now today I got myself a 9" PC-monitor (which they sell at trades here). Now the hardest part is fitting it all and I'm halfway through it, but I thought I keep you guys informed ;-) At the moment I'm very pleased with the result, it's a beautiful little monitor for in my livingroom, for on my HomeTheatre PC. Don't look at the OS now, I have this PC only 2 weeks now and this was the quickest. Eventually I'll install a Linux or BSD on it and then I'll get a windowmanager in style with the SE. I already tried some good system 6 look-a-likes on my NetBSD-box ;-) Well, as I said earlier, I have given it quite some thought before I did this, but this way I have a Mac SE very prominently in my livingroom instead of rusting away in a closet. Oh, before I forget, pictures! (can be slow, I host it on my cablemodem) http://mark.is-a-geek.org/macmonitor.html Mark ***http://mark.is-a-geek.org/*** a Classic II, a LC475, a Quadra 800 and some other hardware :-)

I think that perhaps this topic should be in the 68k Hacks forum. Though I'll let it stay for now (or until someone else moves it) because this is the lounge and you can discuss most things here.68k Macintosh Liberation Army Christophillis- Lt. I love the detail you've taken into your good photos and the hack!like how you have kept the colorful apple logo intact it'd be cool if you could put a PC floppy drive in there Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life"

The optiplexes the really small ones you see in banks and stuff? They're pretty basic machines and are basically designed to as part of a network aren't they?In most "business" business's they don't really want people messing around with machines, how many secretaries, temps etc need to use a CD drive? Any work an admin needs to do can be generally be done through the network (you can pop out the HD or hook a USB device for trickier stuff). It's one less component to pay for and one less way for users to stuff up their computers. Anyway can we have a bit less of the NT stuff? Why buy a PC and put NT 4 on it to run my network when I could probably get a more useful Mac for less and do exactly the same stuff and run all my nice mac software? It's one thing if you get a free PC, but still... -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

I very much agree with toning down the NT4 stuff. This is a 68k forum, not a windows ... *leaves the topic before a rant starts*68k Macintosh Liberation Army Christophillis- Lt. Colonel Newton Squadron Commander Total 68k Macs Liberated: 6.02x10^23 or just 4 |
