I'm considering the parting with of my belovéd project Quadra 840av, which until now has been my beast of burden for both fun and actual audio/video work. I need to get some new hardware and as hard as it is to admit, spending so much cash on my 68k collection is really doing nothing for me. So, I'm consering selling it. It was supposed to go to my brother, but he ended up buying a PC and a 68k of his own so he isn't going to have space for it. Anyway, for those who don't know, this may be one of the most tricked-out 68k's you will ever see. Here are the specs: Model: Mac Quadra 840av Proc: 40MHz 68040 RAM: 128MB Hard Drives: 1x 2GB and 2x 4GB Ultrawide SCSI drives, all 7,200 rpm (the two 4GB are in a striped RAID) Optical Drive: 4x/8x Yamaha SCSI tray-load CD burner Floppy Drive: None, it was removed to fit the three hard drives, but I would include an internal 1.44MB floppy drive in case you need it Nubus Cards: SuperMac SipgotPower card (full-frame, full-motion vid capture), FWB JackHammer Ultra-Wide SCSI card (20MB/sec max throughput, running all three hard drives), DigiDesign AudioMedia II card (composite analog and digital audio I/O's) OS: Currently running OS 8.1, will include burned copy of the 8.1 install CD and backups of software Key Software: Photoshop 4, Premiere 4, AfterEffects 3.x, ProTools 3.x (runs with 8 tracks through the AMII), SoundEdit 16 2.0, Toast 4.x Monitor: AppleVision 1710av (monitor is somewhat dim, even with brightness and contrast turned all the way up, but otherwise works fine and has very good-sounding internal speakers) Keyboard: Apple Design ADB Mouse: ADB Mouse Other Peripherals: AAUI 10bT RJ-45 ethernet adapter, empty 68-pin 2-bay SCSI case (just add two 68-pin SCSI drives and a 68-pin SCSI cable and you'll have even MORE storage) Notes: The case of the 840av and the keyboard have both been painted black, though they have been scratched significantly since doing so. The internal speaker in the 840av has been removed, though with the AppleVision 1710av's speakers it doesn't really matter. The three Nubus cards alone in this system are worth at least $150, but I am not going to part anything out...I prefer to sell the whole package to someone who would have audio/video intent for it. Shipping is obviously going to be a tough one, as the monitor alone weighs over 70 pounds. Reply here if you are interested and have an offer. Pictures of the setup are at the bottom of this page. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Lord of the Mac II Series Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 http://www.cinemafia.net Edited by - cinemafia on 23 May 2003 05:39:56 |

How well does the scsi card work with the superspigot?I have the radius version of that pds card in my Q840av (full ram/vram), and heard that it doesnt support the addon scsi cards. I already have an 18gb hitachi scsi drive in my unit along with the stock 1gb os drive. I dont have a need for the whole package, but if you want to part the scsi and audio card out at a later date let me know. I would run the scsi drives external anyway for heat reasons.

As far as I can tell the SpigotPower card doesn't have any problems with the JackHammer...everything is running well...but, what do you by not supporting it? Do you mean not being able to capture video to the drives on the SCSI card?At the moment I'd prefer to sell the whole system intact, but if I ever decide to part it out I'll drop you a line. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Lord of the Mac II Series Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 http://www.cinemafia.net Edited by - cinemafia on 23 May 2003 08:25:50 |

I'll have to go and dig out the manuals, have you captured to the scsi drives on the card without dropping frames or other problems?

Yeah, I haven't used it for video capture in some time simply because I have nowhere to set everything up except temporarily. However, when I was using it regulalrly I had no problems.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Lord of the Mac II Series Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 http://www.cinemafia.net |

Methinks $40 is too low, Cory, remember the NuBus cards in there alone are worth about US$150!-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
