Howdy, folks!
Well, I'm happy to report that the sadly beat-up old Mac SE/30 that I bought at a school surplus sale last summer has come back from the dead!
A while back, I'd bought a Mac II/fx ROM chip for this little beastie (I can't recall who from, but it was a fellow MLA'er), but after installing it, the /30 never worked again, with or without the II/fx ROM simm... It would chime once at boot, and then display a screen full of garbage. I remember spending several long days tinkering with it, trying to resolve the problems, but they never went away...
Anyway, nearly a year later, I was cleaning my room, came upon the /30, and decided to toss it - I would normally offer it up here for trade/sale, but space is at an extreme premium in my room, and just junking it seemed like an okay idea...
So, just to be sure, I plugged it in, fired it up, and....... nothing. I tinkered with it for a while, but made no headway - no matter what I did, all I got was the screen of garbage, and nothing else. I was just about to give up and toss it, when I realized that I'd skipped Mac Repair Step 1: Zapping the PRAM! I did this a couple of times, got the garbage screen, but after about 20 secs., it cleared up and tried to boot!! Success! I digged out my old external SCSI case, found some old SCSI drives (80 and 160 meggers from old Mac projects), and the little sucker fired right up from the first one I attached! Plus, the 2-gig SCSI drive I'd installed internally works as well, now that I've run Norton (2.1, I think) on it, booting to System 6.1! Schweeeeet!
So, now all I need is some ideas re: what to do with it now that it's running.
For reference, it's got a 2-gig internal drive, working floppy, 32 megs of RAM, and, uhh, stuff.
I'm thinking about installing that slot-loading SCSI CD-ROM drive I bought a while back in this puppy... any thoughts?
Thanks!
:-)

Actually, I think it's the one that's working! Turns out the old ROM chip has been fried, and the one I bought from you (from your Mac II/fx) is working like a champ!
Thanks!
