Oh, this is sooooo tempting. I have no room/real use for another G4 at the moment, but one of the things I love most about my PC is the tinker factor.

Cool kit in a big white box. It does seem to be missing a few parts -- no processor, no HD, and no display board. To quote Heinlein: "TANSTAAFL."

Nothing new. That's been around ever since all the iBox crap faded away.

It's made by the same person

Personally i'll be considering one next time I need a new machine, I have tons of spare parts, wouldn't be happy with a stock processor from that era anyway. I'd flash a graphics card I'm guessing you could build up a machine running around 1 GHz for about 800 USD depending on what you have kicking around.

When the new IBM 970 chip comes out in a month or so nobody will want the g4's anymore. I like classic OS on 68k, and 9.1 for some lite work.. dont need an OSX capable machine

Exactly. Right now is not a very wise time to buy a Mac, with the 970 on the horizon and all that.

I'm definatly looking at beginning my upgrade to this at the end of the summer.

Initial CoreCrib purchase: $380
G4/800 card: $260
512MB RAM: $68
Radeon PCI: already purchased
HD's: already purchased
CD-RW: already purchased
CD-ROM: already purchased
DVD-ROM: already purchased

So for about $600, I'll bump the processor speed 300MHz, add AGP, add extra expandabiliy, and the possibility for future expansion. (I do plan on getting a Radeon 8500 or GeForce4Ti later)

I like my TiBook....

I would like to get my other macs out though... while I kinda like the way that thingy looks...

I just don't want to shell out $300 for a case/psu/mobo and another $260 for a processor unless it's MUCH better than what apple currently offers....
