Don't you know some software for connecting Performa 630 and GSM phone (Sony CMD J-70) with organizer, SMS editor etc.? Anything I found on Internet is for Wintel or PPC only :-((
And what about connecting cable?
Thanx.

Welcome to the 68kMLA. I don't think there is any off-the-shelf software for connecting a phone to a 68k.

If you are interested in a bit of software development or hacking, you might be able to get something working. You might be able to connect the phone to a terminal application, such as ZTerm, and talk manually to the phone with text commands. In addition to the phone's serial cable for a PC, you would need an adapter cable that connects from the 9-pin D connector of the PC cable to the circular serial port of the Mac.

One tough issue is that the J-70 communicates at 115200 baud and I don't know which 68k machines can handle that speed or if you can change the phone's setup to communicate at a slower speed. You would also need to learn the phone's language which, I think, is some kind of GSM standard. If you are really skilled/persistant , you might be able to find and adapt open-source phone connection software from the linux world.

I'm sorry, I don't have any easy answers.

Good Luck!

Thank you for your answer. I don't think I would be able to do such things as develop my own software. But I will try and play with connection and will see what happens...

Wasn't there software for early powerbooks, 190 and 5x0 for dealing with GSM phones/modems? Might be worth a shot...

About the serial ports, both the IIfx and the Quadra 900 and 950's can do 230k on their ports, so maybe he could use one of those machines. I also think that a lot of Macs can do speeds close to 920k if they are clocked externally.

Really? Wow...I didn't know the standards were even set back then. Were they? This seems odd to me.

I don't think so, for the reasons that were stated above.
