On Friday, we were hit by a bunch of rain and storms, and a lot of flooding resulted. My school flooded quite a bit, and we still had to go. Heck, we couldn't park anywhere but in a lake, which meant someone in a pickup truck had to bring students from the lake to the school (with a new indoor swimming pool). I was half tempted to take my canoe around the parking lot a few times

Here's the pics that came out of the local newspaper:

Oops! Nothing compares though to the flood that was here a few months ago. Back at my old school, the school marshall, who had caused me a great deal of trouble last year, woke up to find his room filled with water! HAR!™

How can they make you goto school with a flood like that? Sounds like an insurance risk for the school to me. Was the basement completely under water?

BTW what area is that school in? Looks like they dont know how to build schools on high ground. My highschool was built on a mound, half the state would be under 20' of water before anybody had their feet wet there.

Those were wild pics!! I hope you can post more of them.

When I first read the title, I thought you may of done the deed. That was until I saw how extensive it was and the actual cause. Can you provide a copy of what the notice said on requiring classes to continue? Aside from the bacterial possibilities, I'd have been more apt to wonder on electrical problems if any of that water started hitting some of the main systems. Even forcing the students to wade through to the doors seems unreasonable with that much water. It's a school, not boot-camp.

around here, they are good at building schools in high places (on prime real estate, but it probalyl was not prime in 1933) but they are not good at designing drainage systems for it. they put the sidewalk drains in high spots, and the water tends to course down the outside stairs. no terrible floodage or leakage inside, but the outside is usually under 4-8" of water.

check out www.lausd.k12.ca.us/San_Pedro_HS for pictures and a map of this school. the url is case sensitive.

I wish I could have a 100th anniversary of something....

the little trains in Wales should be having their like... 200th Bday soonly... Maybe I'll go to that

We didn't have floods in WA and if the HS in Arizona flooded we'd be basically fudged over... it's only one story and it's pretty much in a hole.... (somehow it is... i'm certain of that)

Well, the school is in Northwest Ohio (Elida/Lima), and the main section you see in that picture was built in 1914. Back then, there was no major development to create such runoff problems. The only live electrical stuff submerged was a couple outlets and conduits. The worst part was the exhaust fumes from the gasoline powered pumps that they used to pump the basement. I had one hell of a headache by the end of the day. Wading through sewage to get into the school was very nasty too.

here's an article from the newspaper's site: http://www.limanews.com/archives/index.inn?loc=detail&doc=/2003/May/09-1247-news02.txt
