I got this...beast...from one of my co-worker's clients that was heaving a bunch of old stuff. It's nearly the size (and weight) of a small car and has SCSI & parallel connections. The only problem is, I can't seem to find any driver software except a commercial product that costs $50 and requires Photoshop (which I don't have and can't justify buying solely for the purpose of connecting this scanner. I was hoping it would be one of those knock-offs that uses one of the common (HP, Canon, or Xerox) engines, but it appears to be totally unique. This is not surprising, given LaCie's arrogance and niche-type products. I'd like to hook it up to one of my PCs at work (running Win98, 2000 & XP) since my beige G3 is running Jaguar and hence can't use the external SCSI bus.

If anyone has an old driver CD or knows where online I might be able to snag one, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, it's going to become a very over-qualified and over-effective paperweight.

Thanks,
-Chad

Yeah, that's the commercial product, but I have no intention of paying money to make a so-old-I-don't-even-know-if-it-works-anymore scanner useful. If I can't find a free way to make it work, then it'll probably get dissected as de-soldering practice or to see what other cool stuff could be done with the innards. It appears that even LaCie has disowned this thing as they no longer have any drivers or even documentation available online. It's like it never existed.

As far as needing photoshop goes the scanner software will work fine with photoshop LE version 4 is easy to get hold of for next to nothing and not bad. A lot of scanner software also works well with the shareware version of graphic converter

Have you tried emailing LaCie and asking very very nicely for a copy of the old drivers. If you explain that you got it used and don't even know if it works, they might send you something. The worst that could happen is that you will have to wait a while. And if they don't reply, then you can go nuts with the soldering iron.
