Hi! Ok, I lent my buddy the openSource freak my Quad650 and Apple CD-ROM Drive. Using the same set of media he was able to get a working A/UX system on the Quad.

A few weeks later, my little sis shows up with an old IIcx packed with 36megs of RAM and a bunch of games I played in 1993... Anyway, the BF and I need a box to connect a PLW310 to our G4s... and the drivers seem to only work with system 7. So I get the brilliant idea to put A/UX onto the IIcx and set it up as a print server using LPR/LPD...

Well, after hacking a boot-floppy together, I erase the HD and format it using HDSC for A/UX System | Mac 40 Meg | A/UX Free (I think the HD is 250 or 300 MB)

I boot up the installer, and have tried bot "Easy" and "Custom" installs. the Mac side installs -no problemo- but when it get's to the A/UX files I get an error that states:

Cannot mount "/dev/dsk/c100d0s0" - Invalid argument

So, Any thoughts? Chris (the BF) thought the partition map might be fubared, but since I used a preset, I don' think that's it. The computer does recognize the CD-ROM drive, too... and it's terminated properly...

Please help if you can.

try manually mounting the filesystem when it gives you the option. The message is probably referring to the HD because that string of letters and numbers means bus 1 SCSI disk 0 slice 0,. Most Mac HD's are set to zero as the SCSI ID 0. Also, to test the HD, in HDSC setup use the test feature and then reinitialize the whole thing using the default settings, you are probably not partitioning the disk right. I bet the problem is how you partitioned it.

Ok, I'll give that a shot... how should i set the partition map?

/drivers
/AUX Root + User
/Swap
/AUX Free

Like that? or some other config?

Thanks you guys! I heart the 68k community :)

Problem Solved!
Following the install instructions on http://www.aux-penelope.com/index.html I set up my partition map like:

16K - Mac Driver
20480K - Mac HD
65536K - Swap
Remaining - A/UX Root + User Slice 0

I then chose all the packages and installed... worked like a dream - about 40 Min. on my MacIIcx with 32M RAM

I then followed Penelope's Network setup. I haven't had time to see if it's working yet... but I went ahead and upgraded it to A/UX 3.1

Now I'm off to write a final, then i'll get back to the A/UX Box in a while

COOL!

congradulations on your other new-to-be A/UX box

My goal is to get the IIsi out of storage, build a small stand for it to sit vertically and then run A/UX on it... possibly as a server, possibly as a 68k workhorse... maybe just for the fun of it...
