Hmm... one not listed that should be is the Ford Crown Victoria.

There is little shielding on the gas tank in back, which in rear end collisions could puncture the tank and leak gas. Although it isn't much of a concern at lower speed crashes (30MPH or less), it is almost always at higher speeds.

85% of United States Police Cars are Crown Victorias. They are responcible for about a dozen police fatalities in the last few years. (The officer survived the crash, didn't survive the fireball of the exploding gas tank.)

Ford continues to say they are safe.

Well car companies judge safety by how many cars are made to how many defects will cause death under what circumstances. Its alot cheaper to pay a few million to each unfortunates family then to recall every car of a certain make and have the problem professionaly taken care off. Its all just economics.

It sounds to me the gas tank problem would be very expensive to fix (dsign new part, mass produce, have every car recalled to dealers who get $$$ per hour of labor).

Get this:

Last year, Dad wrote off a brand new Holden Commodore when he was t-boned. Apart from a few bruises, he was able to walk away from the accident. Earlier on this year, one of my friends pranged her Falcon (yes, they still do make Falcons here), and she broke all her ribs.

I guess that's yet another reason to buy a Holden or a Chevy.

Btw, isn't it such a coincidence that about 90% of all the police cars here in QLD are souped up Holden Commodores?

Just don't get a 1986 Aerostar. My dad had one and the transmission went out 4 times while he owned it and another 3 after he sold it.Go to Top of Page
