My Preforma 5200CD hack that I mentioned before in my previous post has encountered a few problems requarding the AT power supply I have tried. All of the appropriate wires are connected to the logic board power wires on the harness, and the board powers up (the light comes on), but as soon as I plug in a floppy drive, it wont stop ejecting (even when theres no disk in it!. I also get no chime. However, the logic board is obviously working, as when I reset it on the keyboard, the light goes off, and then after about 5 secoinds, comes back on (its obviously resetting).A fritter member told me this was because of the of the 5 volt trikkle absent on an AT power supply. I have a working power supply for a IIsi, and IIci. Will these work better with the Performa, and if so? Help! Cheers... |

I hear that the quadra 605 is one of the only older macs that doesn't use the trickle.... or something like that It should work better because it does have the trickle... Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

THEy probably will, because they use soft power, like the Performa. You could also consider trying an ATX PSU, if you can get that to work.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Exactly. The 605 uses the pizzabox LC power supply, which doesn't have a trickle line.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

That sounds suspisoulsy like what happens when you connect a PC CD or floppy drive back to front, you are using the same floppy drive that came with the mobo? If you look at the CC wiring diagrams you'll see that a pair of wires have to be swapped to use and old style floppy drive. However the 5v is also true IIRC, ATX power supplies do indeed provide a 5v trickle. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

the trickle is for soft-power right? well IIRC said IIci isn't working correctly anyway and that does sound like a fun fun hack Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

Another thing you might want to check is the 110/220V switch on the back of the AT PSU. When these get flipped, strange results like this may happen. I know that on a 486, when the switch is flipped, it will get funny errors and stuff. The Lightning Stalker Performa 631CD, 7.5.5 LC III Mail Server Q610 Q650 6400/180 40/1.6G/512k L2/enet/video-in/TV 7600/120 '604/233, 80/1.2G & 4G, 9.2.2 (Main Mac) Lady Smith Apples: Apple IIc 5.25" 2 Apple IIe |

Not a very good idea for Australians, such as Macintrash. Y'see, although it's safe to do that in the US (which has 110V), Australia runs on 240V, so if you switch it to 110V, you risk blowing the power supply, because too much juice will be running into it. -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
