A Quadra 660AV...A teacher gave it to me today. He had originally bought it but it fell quickly into dis-use, I guess. He had it in his garage and gave it to me in payment for installing new RAM in his bondi iMac for him. The case is in rough shape. I havenmt had a chanmce to plug it in yet.68k Macs Liberated: 5 1/2(One's not working yet) |

Very cool, good work!If nothing else, a Q660av makes a great still-video capture box. Hook it up to your VCR/DVD/analog camcorder and make stills for a website! 666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! |

Well I got some time to look at it...The HD is bad, but other than that, it's pretty nice. The case is slightly yellowed but not too bad.68k Macs Liberated: 5 1/2(One's not working yet) |

Ugh. I wish cases would never yellow, then 68ks would always look very pretty! The slight yellowing on the front and back plastic on my 650 clashes with the completely-platinum painted metal in between the two (and no - I will not paint it!)-------------------- FireWire is fast General, 4 star beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ |

Is there anyway to remove the yellowing of a case?68k Macs Liberated: 5 1/2(One's not working yet) |

Not really. It's some kind of sun-bleaching, and there's no way to reverse it. My solution is to spray paint everything black. Can't go wrong that-a-way.666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! |

ugh. I still can't believe you did that to an 840av...blasphemy, simply blasphemy. Don't worry, though, I won't beat you with my Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ or that 2x4...-------------------- FireWire is fast General, 4 star beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ |

Trust me, its look sooooo much better than a yellowed front fascia with a scratched/dirty platinum metal case. Yuck!I do need to get some better quality paint, though. This 89 cent Wal-Mart brand stuff scratches off too easy. Time to hit up the hobby shop for some quality stuff! 666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Visit my site! |

What kind of surface prep have you been doing? A how-to on case refurb/redecorating might be good content for our site. I remember several old mag. articles and there has to be a lot of material in related fields to apply to 68k's. I've been wondering if a light sandblasting with really fine grit and repolishing the plastic might help. Buffing with soft-scrub seems to help where I've tried it. I'm also wondering how well industrial powder-coating might work for a black-mac-hack (or silver or gold or...... ooh! ooh! ooh!..just hit me! surface gilding! cofer the entire box...with variegated leaf, or copper leaf or....... =8-} jt
