I have an external CD ROM drive that i put together last year using an AppleCD300i+ and a topless external SCSI case i got for free from the Shop. However, the front panel has fallen off, and it now looks all ugly and stuff. Has anyone got any ideas as to what i can put the guts (PSU and everything) into? And don't say a PC case....that's a boring hack, plus my Internal -> External SCSI cable isn't that long, as I nicked it from a gutted SyQuest EzDrive. Hmm, maybe i still have the case for one of those radios that i pulled to bits back when i was 7...that'd be a nice hack if i got the case's PSU and the drive and stuff to fit. Anyone got any ideas? -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

If you are going to do the hack, why not stuff it into something that shouldn't be spitting out cd's? A kids lunch box Pizza box Flower pot with fake flower Flower pot with real plant Compact Mac case converted to fish tank & external cd rom. Bonus: chain a hard disk in there also. Case made out of legos One of those big ugly desk phones Cardboard tube that looks like an oversized battery Dead notebook case Any of those sound good? emaq123

A really big book, like a dictionary. Cut out a big chunk of pages, and make sure no paper is going to touch the PSU (perhaps with some kind of metal supports?) Then you have a really interesting mix of storage media - the old and the new!{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 4} { My baby: Q660av } |

So do i. Put in a wooden innerframe to keep the structure right and to screw everything onto, and you have a perfect case! -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Or i could put a wood panel inside the case over the top of the electronics, and use the top as a storage area for CDs? -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
