I say!

I just ever-so-hate it when I have to hear about something of yours that is borken....
It was cool when you had that 3400 working for awhile... and the idea that you'd have a pismo was wonderful... but the gods of glayven don't seem to be in your favor at all...

"let us all pray to the many gods of glayven, for the good fortune of robin, and let us hope that he gets a new in box TiBook, (because the AlBooks still have problems)"

Bummer about the DOA Pismo, screeching 3400, the universe and all. Sometimes I think the Big Bang was a Big Mistake. Maybe a trip to the restaurant at the end of the universe will cheer you up.

Regards the Pismo, have you tried pulling the battery and holding down the little reset button in the back for 20 seconds? If that does not work, you could always try the old dissemble, reseat the connectors, reassemble trick. And if that doesn't work, you could try selling it on ebay for parts.

Best wishes,

No nothing usually means PSU. If you're not totally opposed to stripping her down and slapping in a new PSU, then it's worth a shot.

Sounds kinda like my luck. The Quadra 650 and 610 I picked out of the garbage Friday work just fine. The problem is with the 10baseT tranceiver. It worked just fine before, but now it doesn't. I thought that maybe the little pins weren't making contact because when I got it the connector hood pulled off exposing the AAUI pins. I also thought I could have glued the hood on upside-down, but I'm fairly sure that I tested it after it was glued and it worked. Whatever the case, it doesn't work now, so it's useless.

At least there's still hope for your Prismo.

Yep! Those PowerBook PSUs have an EXTREMELY high failure rate. The 1400 that I am typing this from is on it's 4th PSU.

But yeah, I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck!

in response...

if you mean the external PSU, that's not it, because it works with my 2300 (much to my suprise) but if it's some internal PSU, the n I didn't even know that powerbooks had such a thing.

I tried holding down the reset button with no power, power in bay 1 power in bay 2 power in bay one with power adpater and power in bay 2 with power adapter. nothing.

in conclusion, the guy said it was functional, and i can get it replaced.

THnx

I believe that ML5 means the power board on the inside of the 'book, if your dad wouldl et you get inside it you could tighten things up and it'd work a *wee bit more*

No, I meant the actual power supply. You know, that thing that goes between the AC outlet and the 'Book?

Sometimes you just need to really really remove all power to the mobo. I know that the service manual for the 8500 has a succession of reset procedures -- zap PRAM, hit the cuda button, and then a logic board reset (remove power, remove PRAM batt, disconnect EVERYTHING). That DOA Pismo must have had some cranky electrons lurking in its circuitry.

Glad to hear your Pismo works, boredomconquersall, I had a similar scare with our Pismo when I forgot to plug in the AC Adapter and the thing ran the batteries to zero and refused to boot.
