I've been having trouble finding 68k macs and other ancient hardware. I keep hearing you all talk about schools throwing out old machines, etc. But where do you hear about these things? Do you go to schools on a regular basis and ask if they have any old macs to give away or sell cheap? How do you get all these nifty finds? Please help! Must liberate more Macs!PFC Tallgeese 68k Mac Liberation Army 68k Macs Liberated: 3 |

It helps if you are a student/know students/know staff. Usually, if a stranger walked up the place is not happy to give away stuff.Thrift shops and antique/junk type places are alright, and sometimes you find them thrown out in dumpster or kerbside collections. In fact, pick up PCs you find too, keep the RAM/HD/SCSI devices, and sell the rest to buy more macs! (I once got 8x1MB sticks of RAM, a SCSI scanner and CD drive from a broken PC) ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit 68k Macintosh Liberation Army (now with forums!) 00007 Macs liberated. |

We mention schools quite often because they are unable to upgrade there hardware every year, so they normally harbor more 68K Macs than average (Average meaning 1 or none). Some school districts do not give away equipment, but a lot do. If they don't give it away, they probably need a legitimate sale to get rid of it. They would probably sell you a whole lot for $1. (I know a guy that bought an entire portable classroom, which was partially destroyed due to fire, for $1. He took 2 years of working on it, refinished the inside, and built a house out of it.) Some great finds can be made at thrift shops, such as Goodwill and Salvation Army surplus store. In these places, the employees neither know or care about the Mac, so they would either place an incredibly low or incredibly high price. Keep a sharp eye out for those good deals. The last place you would want to look is eBay. Yes they have the equipment in abundence, but majority of the time, it is being sold at some astronomicly high price, for no reason. (Mac 128K for $150 comes to mind, "Powerbook", with no description for $2000 also does) Just remember to keep up to date on your pricing data, and look around for good deals. ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |

Just ask! It seems that a lot of people started out with an old Apple or Mac and they still seem to have it laying around some where. If people know you have and like old macs they will start telling you about the one they have in the closet. One of the people I work with has a LC III that they are going to replace at Christmas and they have already promised it to me if I help them with there new Computer (hopefully a Mac)! So just ask around you might be supprised!General LeeMac M.A.C ( Mac Action Commando) Macs Liberated 0001 Inventory-Centris-660AV |

yeah, ebay is a place where you want to watch your step. shure there are some good deals there to get (i got my LC475 for $12 canadian...) but there is a whole lot of people who overprice their items because they don't know any better (a german black 5400 for $700. shure it's somewhat of a colector's item, but still too much). schools are most likely your best shot at cheep macs if you can presuade them to give them up.-------------------- specialist spirit without Bolo Driver 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Total 68K Macs liberated:1 |
