I was doing some research last night and realized that there never was a PowerBook with a full 040 processor sold in the USA. The only PowerBook that had a full 040 processor was the PowerBook 550c and it was only sold in Japan.

Any powerbook with an FPU could run A/UX. It was just a matter of getting a 68551 or 68552 that fit inside the tiny co-processor sockets that some powerbooks had.

The PB550 was not "Only Sold in Japan." It was sold in the US in its last 3 months of Selling life along with the PB 190 and was discontinued in the US when the PB5300 (PowerPC) was released. Whether they continued selling it Japan after that, remains to be seen.
BTW, Anyone ever been to the PowerBook Army's Website? There's some a couple of really odd PB's there that were never sold in the US or elsewhere.

quote: but can it actually run A/UX??? right architecture and stuff? or is it just that it has an FPU?
If it actually can run A/UX I'd LOVE TO GET ONE!!!!

And the video chip would have to be correct, too. Because remember, the only reason you cant use A/UX on an LCIII + FPU or full LC475 is because of the video chip.
