Guys, i'm quite new & need some help.
i'm sorry if this is in the wrong section...
I'm thinking of getting an LC 475.
And upgrade it to the max.
I'm thinking of installing the presto plus.

I had a LC475 before but it broke down.
What do you guys think ?
Is it worth it ?

Thanks in advance.
Pojam.
p/s: any 68k experts user out there, i would appreciate any good links.

I'd say that for the right price, anything is "worth it"

Especially if you can eat up one of the FeetsMac Quadra 605 variants. it's the same motherboard IIRC, it's just in a cooler looking case...

I seriously can't say I suggest very many of the current mac retailers except ShreveSystems, and only if you're looking for *raare parts* or *one of their sale items*

www.shrevesystems.com be careful though

I'm not sure what you want to do with the lc475 but when you say "upgrade to the max", have you looked at the Quadra 630? http://www.lowendmac.com/quadra/q630.shtml Same width, taller with more expansion options. I have 3 here with the perfoma badge. Swap out the 68LC040 with a 68040 and you've got a nice box. It has some nice video options too. I hooked a DVD player to one once. Worked well.

Then again, I'm setting up a Classic for daily use, sounds like your playing with a supercomputer there. :)

So go for it!

The Presto Plus is not worth the money, as you can get a mac with double or more processing power than the prestoplus would give you for a third or less price.

Keep the 475, and just upgrade RAM, etc.

have fun!

ok. for those who recommend me other quadra models...
no thanks. i really like the LC 475.
now i'm thinking of upgrading it to :
64 MB ram
2 GB hard disk
and/or
1 scsi Iomega Zip disk 100 MB.

anyway, the price for the LC 475 is RM 190 equivalent to $50
the 64 MB ram is RM 160 equvalent to $42
the 2 GB scsi hard disk is RM 150 equivalent to $40
the Zip Disk 100 MB drive cost RM 150 equivalent to $40.
the presto isn't available here so i won't get it.

all total is $150. is it a good deal ?
i don't live in the US. i live in malaysia.

Pojam.
p/s: if i bought this mac, would i be in the 68k army ?

Sorry but that is one SERIOUSLY bad deal!!

It would be cheaper to buy a beige G3 in Australia or the US and have it shipped internationally!

Is that typical of Mac prices in Malyasia?? I wouldn't be spending more than 50 USD with the upgrades. Seriously one of us in Australia could probably hook you up with an LC475 and ship it to your for well under 50 USD, I suspect somewhere closer to 30. I think Flash might have a spare LC475...

anyway gothikon, bout the question earlier,
yes, the price of macintosh in malaysia is really expensive.

a new model would drop at RM 8000++.
this depends on the models itself.
but a new mac' price would always be above RM 5000.

RM 5000 is equivalent to $1320.

the percentage of people using macintosh in malaysia:
home user - 40%
industry&education use - 60%.

people don't use mac here.
Apple is not really famous in malaysia.
Only *special* people like me get to know apple computers.

hehehe,
Pojam.

Bah, the LC475 looks much better! Its just personal preference ;)

Mypojam:

The LC475 will take 128mb SIMM's also, but they must be single banked (they can be double sided) Data Memory Systems stock compatible memory - Part number DM36-004 ($65.00) or DM60-015 ($69.00).

Don't forget the VRAM. Replace the 256kb SIMM's with 512kb ones to allow thousands of colours at 800x600.

Replace the LC040 with a fully fledged 040. a 25mhz version will do. Then you can safely overclock the board to 33mhz simply by swapping two SMT's - an overall 32% speedup. Remember to stick a heatsink on the processor now though - its working a lot harder than it was at 25mhz.

i'm sorry jobf but looks like i have to drop the LC 475.
i got a better deal. a powermac 7100/80 for 15$.
but the worst thing is the shipping. the shipping alone is $50.
i'm getting it from slowmac(http://www.slowmac.no-ip.com).
he'd agreed to ship it to me. very grateful for that.

anyway, i really like the LC 475, but i can't find a good deal.
plus, the powermac family got cd built in.

hehehe, can i still join the 68kmla force if i got a powermac ?
i'll do anything to bear the title "soldier of the 68k macintosh liberation army".

Pojam.
