I've got a great looking PB 145b. Here's the problem. When I try to startup with the battery in nothing happens. Also when I plug the battery in with it running it shuts down. I'm guessing the battery is dead. Does the 145b charge the battery internally or do you have to use external charger?I like it slow |

That is a classic symptom of a very dead, internally shorted battery. Normally, you should be able to run the PB and charge the battery too. Others here may have some insight on whether a battery in that condition is savable or not.G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent

If I am correct in my understanding, you can start the 'book up without the battery inserted, and the power adapter plugged in?CCC Commander Promotion: 19 Mar 2003 13:06:30 68k Macs Rescued: 2 Pluses, a 512KE, a Classic II, a Q650, a Q660AV, an SE/30, and a MacII Contraband rescued: Power Computing PowerBase 200, a PM 8600/300, and a PM8500/180 Apple //s rescued: Apple //e |

Yes that's correct the PowerBook works great as long as the battery isn't in it.I like it slow |
