Well, the title pretty much lays it out- my boss has suggested, now that I've got a crapload of free time (see my older "Courtney dumped me" thread for details on that), that I should start a campus-based Apple/Mac Club. Have any of you ever participated in something like this? At my school, there doesn't seem to be much of an orginized Apple community (with the exception of a small, infrequently open Mac lab), so there may well be some real support from other Mac-friendly students...
Okay, thats about it. Any ideas, tips, or suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks,
SpaceBoy

Do you have a "PennySaver" type of local free ad newspaper in your area? Find a good, easy access place that you can get together. Once you've secured a good location to meet at, then put an ad in to provide notice to any and all Mac people that they'd be welcome to attend monthly or bi-monthly meetings at that location. Something like, "3rd Tuesday of the month at the such-and-such Malls Food Court at 7pm". Create and post flyers on area bulitan boards too. The open invite in a relaxed atmosphere should draw an intial gathering in which to build from. You may want to come up with a list of topics and ideas for discusions and maybe a Hack of your own for a prop to get things going.

I'd join except I don't have... uhh... well I'm not in Las Vegas but I live like... 50-60 miles southeast of you iTthink....

You could register your group with Apple as a registered User Group... and they'll love you even MORE if you are a campus... they will trust me..

make sure you have a mac with a DVD drive

This is exactly what I'd like to do, but I have no idea how to go about it? Any ideas?
Thanks,

Y'know, I'm thinking of doing the same thing, SpaceBoy. How hard would it be to register your user group with Apple? And how much does it cost? Can you please provide tips to a guy who has never ever been to a MUG meeting?

An easy online communication method, be it a dynamic website, or an email list, or something would be good too. Most mac geeks interested are gonna check there before the PennySaver
