When I try to update OS 9 to OS 9.1 on this PM 7100 it says that I need to startup off the OS 9.1 CD. Why is this? What the heck is so special about the PM 7100 that it has to have this? I don't have a 9.1 install CD. Is there a way using my OS 9 install CD to do a work around or am I just screwed.

WHY are you upgrading to OS 9.1? It runs very badly on everything I've tried it with...

I loved OS 9.0 on my 7300 everything was fast, but 9.1 is worse IMHO...

Strange I've never heard that before. I always like to max out the OS install version before getting rid of my Macs. It just seems like the right thing to do. If I knew a way to install OSX on a Mac plus I would do it. Even if it took a week for it to start up. I've never had a problem with 9.1 or 9.2.

9.1 seems to run better I think.

Minix??

Minix is a Unix implementation which will run on a 68000 Macintosh (or an 8088 PC). It has many similarities to OS X, such as the ability to run Unix applications and Macintosh applications simultaneously and a nice command line interface.

Of course, I am embellishing slightly.

To install 9.1 on a 6100/7100/8100 you need the cd. Don't ask me why, but apple states it plainly on their website. As a workaround you can burn 9.1 to a disk and then us that to boot. I suppose the best way would be to create a disk image, install 9 into that, then install 9.1 (and 9.2) onto that. Then burn the disk image to a cd.

hmm... When I get rid of my macs a clean install of os8 usually does the trick... I have the CD that came with the iMac 233 and that basically does it for any 68k or PowerPC...
a 7.5.3 CD and 7.0.1 disks are also part of my arsenel...

When I put 9.1 on my 7100 I hade to do that as well. I was also told that Apple said that 9.1 isnt supposed to run on Nubus macs. Which I found out was kinda bull, due to the fact I put the cd in and clicked install and it worked fine.

I would like to tell everyone that if you have at least 64 megs of RAM, OS 9.0 runs like a dream on my 8100/80, and should on a 7100/80, which uses almost the exact same mobo as the 8100/80.

Yes, I know i am nuts....
