The new Macs are so expensive over here, the cheapest price ive found for a new mac is something like $2000! And being a 15 year old with an appaulling part time salary of $6.20, I definatly cant afford to buy a new mac! I dont care what it is, as long as it can run the earliest version of OS 10 (X)Does anyone here live in Western Australia that has a machine with OS 10 which they wish to sell? For under $1000? |

I know that people have had X running on non-G3 Macs, but I have had no luck at all. So I would recommend looking for a G3 (not an upgraded PPC) of some description, such as an iMac or a Blue and White. microseconds.com.au is a good place to start looking (although shipping may cost you a bit to WA) or look in the tradingpost.com.au and of course good old eBay.~Coxy is local to WA, so he may be able to help too. happy Mac hunting cheers Flash! - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

Look for a Blue and White G3, or one of the 500-700 MHz iMacs with Rage 128 video. Either one will run OS X very well. You want the latest version of OS X. The first version was really slow. Unlike M$ software, OS X has actually improved in speed as it has progressed! A beige G3 is also a great choice; it's very expandable and easily upgraded to a G4 processor when you have the money. If you'll be getting one, plan on getting a new video card for it, either a Rage 128 or a Radeon. Older ATI Rage and Mach64 cards just can't handle OS X. You'll also need a USB card if you want to use any newer peripherals. With any machine you buy, plan on getting a two-button mouse for it. The Micro$oft USB optical scroll wheel mice work very nicely.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |
