one of my teachers at school was cleaning out his garage, and he found his old LCIII, and asked if i wanted it, so i said yeah, why not. he brought it to school the other day.. it's probably the nicest pizzabox Mac i've ever seen. there's absolutely no yellowing, and it hadn't ever been opened. it came with: Apple Color Plus 14" Display, a StyleWriter II, a USR 14.4 modem, a keyboard & mouse, plus a lot of cables. the best part about it is that it came with all the original software and manuals (in perfect condition) and several games!

i'm planning on using it for some of my older games.

btw, it's got an FPU socket.. what chip is compatible with it?

Congrats on the LCIII, it sounds like a very nice and very complete system. The FPU that you want is a 68882.

Enjoy!

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whats the condition of the ColourPlus Display? Is that platinum too? All of my latest haul, apart from the keyboard and the 8100 was platinum, also!

And yes, you do need a 68882 FPU.

up until 99

my nephew uses my LC I now, for his schoolwork and typing practice, he saves his stuff to a floppy and his teacher prints it out with her iMac

On the 68882, you could look on eBay, or also you could post in the Trading Post what you're looking for.

Don't expect a major speed improvement. I put a FPU into my LC III and didn't notice any speed improvement. It would probably show up in a benchmark program, though, and some software needs an FPU.

:looks for a garage:

In my IIsi, the FPU is required to run A/UX I'm not sure if an LCIII will run A/UX but that would be cool to think about...

I think there´s a linux distro that works with the LC III with an FPU. Look around :)
