Installed a Silicon Express IV card in my 840av and connected it via 50-pin SCSI cable to a 10K rpm Cheetah drive I've got (with 80-50 pin adapter). 7.5.5 is installed on the Quadra, but I couldn't find anything for initializing the new drive! I don't know much about systems before 8.5...am I missing something? I booted off a 7.6 CD and tried to initialize with HD Setup but nothing but the 7.5.5 system drive was recognized. Do I need drivers or something for the nubus card?

Doesnt the silicon express come with a 68 pin connection, if so you would be better off using it then a 50 pin.

I hope the 10k drive is external or its going to overheat in the case.

Alot of HD's are unsuppoted by apples formatting utility, go find a copy of FWB's hard disk tool kit, it will format the drive for you. version 3.x should workd on a 68k mac.

Why did you get rid of the SpigotPro AV?

Apple's HDSC setup and Drive Setup will rarely, if ever, work with non-apple-rom drives. There are many free utilities available that will do the trick. In fact, a simple resedit hack can make HDSC setup work with many drives. For this and other utilities, head to gamba:

After that, good luck with that sucker

The A/UX version of Apple HD SC Setup will initialize anything that spins, though it can be used in extreme circumstances.

I believe that SilverLining does the job too ;)
