What I found today:
1 Macintosh monitor about 13 inches - listed $25.00
1 Macintosh SE - listed $10.00
1 AppleCD 150 - listed $5.00
1 AppleCD 300e Plus - listed $5.00
1 game - unlisted
Total price $45.00
I bargained down to $35.00
There were also numerous laser/inkjet/dot matrix printers (5 stylewriter 2's) in all shapes in sizes from $10.00 to $40.00, but I passed due to my current lack of space.

Quite true. I've got a Mac Plus as one of my various projects. Going to set it up with a Zip drive and use it to play the dozens of old games from the mid-80s.

Bad News. The Macs, esp. compact ones in working order, are a lot easier to find than the Stylewriters or other serial printers. One day there will be heaps of Macs around but all the printers will have either expired or (shudder to think) been thrown away in perfect working order. Always rescue the printers too. There are three Stylewriter models on my top shelf (two 1500s and a color 2500 I think) just waiting for someone to invest in costly ink cartridges. Meanwhile all the 68k owners that I have donated my liberations to are desperate for free serial printers.

Its cheaper to invest in 1 good mac compatible laser then bother with the older ink jets.

Most people here have a dozen mac 68k's but maybe 1 printer networked to them. I have 4 macs and 1 laser (4/600 PS) and 8 PC's with 2 lasers (Epson actionlaser 1500 5mb ram, and a NEC 870 18mb ram)

I agree in part. What about the Color issue? I suppose no problem with a black&white Mac... but LCs and Color StyleWriters go hand-in-hand.

I don't have a mac printer... sometimes I used my dad's HP DJ-880C with my TiBook...

I have a CSW-2200 and am willing to invest some in ink but I need a working adaptor for it... [:'(]

I have a canon bjc-5000 (11x17 color inkjet), think the fuse is blown on the power supply. had this thing forver but didnt do many color prints on it, just never had the need. It was usefull for 11x17 cad drawings which is what I initially got it for 911x17 laser were real expensive at the time).

I've wanted that Apple 11X17 printer for awhile... :drools: DTP on a Mac IIci with the portrait display and a 11X17 printer....

So who knows which apple inkjets tend to be reliable with cheap ink available? For me it is much cheaper to get a laser then to mess with inkjets. Color, in general, is overated.

ABSOLUTELY!
Color is why you can't buy a PDA with decent battery life -- stupid color screens need stupid battery sucking backlights. GRRR!

....Sorry for that little ranttangent.

My Newton 120 has good battery life... But then it doesn't have color. It is cool to hook it directly to a laser and print.

speaking of printers.. how do you share laserwriters over ethernet? (like the IINT, which has no enet port)

I have a PDA! It's a bit big, and it's black and white, and eats through battery power quite fast, but it can run Mac programs, and it is pretty cool.

Its called a "PowerBook 145B".

There are three options:
1) Apple Printer Share: this will let you share a serial, USB, or SCSI printer that is connected to a Mac that is also connected to the network. This Mac must be on anytime you need to print.

2) Software ethernet-to-localtalk bridge: Use a Mac with software such as IPNetRouter or Apple's LocalTalk Bridge 2.1. This converts a Mac that has both a localtalk ports (printer or modem port) and an ethernet connection into a router that bridges ethernet and localtalk. This Mac must be on anytime you need to connect across the two networks.

3) Hardware ethernet-to-localtalk bridge: Use a little bridge box, like a Farallon's iPrint, to connect the two networks together. (This is what I use and it works extremely well)

Option 1 is the easiest, cheapest, but least functional. Options 2 and 3 both will let you share files between newer ethernet macs and older localtalk-only Macs. This makes it very easy to upload files into older 68k macs and make backups of these machiens. Option 2 is the hardest, but may work well if you setup one Mac as the network bridge and file server so that that Mac would be on all the time anyway. Option 3 is very easy, but you need to buy/find the bridge box.

Happy Printing!

4) LaserWriter IIg logic board upgrade: it pops right in and is MUUUUUUUCH faster!

p.s. Even though my upgraded IInt remains networked over PhoneNet using an AsanteTalk bridge, the IIg board is much faster than the old IInt board I removed.

Yeah, but a spare Mac is a LOT easier to find. Plus, it keeps more unwanted Macs out of the trash, which is always a good thing.

Get a PB 100. It's smaller and runs on AA batteries.

Yep! It does! Matter of fact, it even works on 512x384, making it a fine game for compacts. Trust me, I've played it on everything from a Classic II to a PowerBook 1400.
