So y'know how it is. One afternoon you're a little bored, and illustrator is open, you start drawing and come up with...

http://www.danamania.com/temp/quadras.jpg

It's a pointless little timeline of when different model quadras were released, and shows a few things visually all at once. First off - how long did the 900/950 want to hang around?! I suppose being the biggest kid on the block they could really push their way through, but that's a good few years!. The little flat 610 was barely around for 6 months before fading away - Of course I missed out on putting the centrises in there. oops!

By the look of things, the Q800 was a replacement for the Q700... appearing around the same time as the latter disappeared. October 1993 would have been an interesting time too - seven quadras were all available at the same time!. Rather neat.

Then things ended how they began - a 9x0 as big brother, with a little sibling paired.

Just curious stuff :). I should get together a few more timelines - Mac IIs and Powerbooks, perhaps.

Very nice graphic that sums it all up! If you add faint horizontal lines between the models, it will make it easier to scan across from model to the time block.

Now, if you are really bored, you could create the timelines for ALL macs.

It's really great dana

A Quadra facts page would be good, specifying time line, & perhaps fastest & slowest & does anyone know Top Trumps?

My Quadra beats yours on speed, but yours wins on cuteness!

Perhaps a new forum will give responses from the members here. I'm of to the Quadra forums.

Hey! Can I use that graphic in the MLAgazine?

Also, dana, do you have other graphics that the MLAgazine could use?

(I should really ask of this 'permission' thing for one that I got from your site, the large illustration of the Q605)

the cover feature of the MLAgazine is "Quadras" and that is a GREAT graphic for it :D (the timeline too) may I publish it?
of course, giving credit where it is due

Hey Shak, 68k Top Trumps would rule! What categories could you have to make it a fair game?

* Speed (relative, out of 10)
* Looks (out of 10)
* Max Mem (Mb)
* Original Price ($)
* Expandability (relative, out of 10)
* Portability (relative, out of 10)

6 categories enough? Other suggestions? Its gonna be fairish for Powerbooks & qudras alike, hence the portability/price category - so a Powerbook could 'beat' a Quadra if the correct stat was chosen. I quite fancy doing this, and making it available for download. People could print it out on card and play it with other 68k fans!

(For those not familiar with top trumps. As an example - Theme of Motor cars. Various stats printed on cards in different categories. Cards shuffled and deal out whole deck between two players. Players look at card, & first player picks category. eg 'Speed 145mph' Opponent reveals their speed of their card - eg 130mph. First player 'wins' and takes opponents card and puts in at the bottom of their pile, along with the card they won with. Winning player gets to pick category again. Play until one player has all the cards.)
