A 7200/90I am going to have about 32-48 MB of RAM, and around 1 GB of HD space for this machine. I just want a simple internet machine, witha GUI mind you, that is a nix flavour. I suggest getting more RAM, and a video card that will do at least thousands of colors at 1024x768!YDL with the XFce desktop and Mozilla should work fine. I'd say that you should get a 604e processor in there and you *might* be fine... IIRC mmost nixies want at least a 604/603 to work.Of the ones that doof tried on the 7300, debian worked. Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

Seeing as *nixes work on 68k's as we all now it should be OK on a 601! There were problems with nubus 601s but this is a PCI system and should be OK.Why not try Debian or free BSD? These two seem quite popular Incidentally there is no cost effective upgrade for the 7200 unless you swap the mobo for a 7300, 7500 or 7600 not all of these can use the 7200's power supply direectly though, check the xlr8yourmac forums for more details. I think a 7500 mobo will be fine. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

good tip. I thought that the proc was similar to the other 7x00... as I think about it... I think the heatsinkless 601 was onboard that one.Deb or free should work. Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

IIRC, the PPC port of FreeBSD is not usable yet. Debian on the other hand runs nicely on my 7200/90 (32mb ram, 1gb hd, using the onboard videocard (console only)). ------------ No life - No problems 68k Macs Liberated: 10 |
